This review is from: Says Who (Audio CD)
Very inspired playing with varied influences to add variety and spice; Funk, cool Jazz, Brazilean music and other styles combined to give a very pleasing experience to the heart, soul and ear! Enjoy playing him on The Blues Power show and Jazz show at 1490 KOTY AM Yakima Nation Reservation station in south central Washington state.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hard-To-Find Solo From Kenny G's Bass Player, February 23, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Says Who (Audio CD)
This is Vail Johnson's first solo release, and many fans will recognize him as Kenny G's bassist. As far as I know, he still plays with Kenny to this day. I just saw him on Kenny's recent Holiday DVD. Anyway, this one is funky, and it rocks from start to finish with only a few mellow moments in between. Most of the songs are original compositions, and if you like Jeff Lorber, Kenny G or Pleasure ('memba them?), then you'll appreciate this one. In fact, Vail, originally from Sweden, I believe, is or was based in Portland, Oregon where many of these fine musicians came from. Eric Marienthal, The Swedish Men's Chorale and some of the original members of Pleasure and Shock perform on this disc. To my knowledge, Vail has released three other solo discs to date. Two originals and one, a Beatles' tribute. All are worth checking out.

5.0 out of 5 stars You have found DA FUNK of the 21st Century!, October 9, 2004
This review is from: Says Who (Audio CD)
So you always liked the music, the Seinfeld Show riffs, the energy - but just couldn't get over the whole George Clinton 'thang'- well today's your lucky day... Vail Johnson has taken funk to the next level - bringing jazz and rock along with him. What Les Paul did for electric guitar in the 1950's, Vail Johnson is doing for bass guitar today. But hey, Simon Auguilar-Garcia says it better than me, take his word for it! Slap this into your player and blow your friends away! You are going to wish that Vail Johnson had an album exploring each of the fourteen themes explored in every song on this disk. Here's to hoping he will come out with more for us to enjoy!
