Even though the titles says "miniature", this is the most useful reference all doll makers should have, especially indispensable for beginners. It is the most complete book on doll-making I have ever come across so far. Every aspect was described and illustrated in depth. The charted reference for head and features are very helpful. I am most delighted with the chapters dealing with eyes, lips, facial expression, make-up, and wigging. What's more, every subject comes with a supply list which is very very helpful.

The BEST!! This is the best "doll" book that I have ever read.
James Carrington is a wonderful teacher and an individual with a wonderful wit. His personality comes through on every page.
Even a beginner can make dollhouse scale figures using the instructions in this book... very clear and lots of pictures. But, they'll keep this book for the humor and the commentary on personality long after they're out of the beginner stage. A person who wants to make characters that tell a story should definitely have this book.
I hope to see another book from this author, soon... James, you're terrific!

James Carrington has done an excellent job with this doll-making guidebook. He has taken great care to add infinite amounts of photographs (entirely color) and illustrations to go with every aspect of the text. If a tool or a technique is mentioned, you can bet there's a picture (or two or three) to go along with it. There are also photographs for every step in the creation process, and he leaves no questions unanswered.
Originally, I purchased this book to aid me in creating 1/12 scale fairies. Being a fairly non-artsy person when it comes to reconstructing the human form, this book was exactly what I needed. The numerous pages on facial expressions and body language are absolutely priceless for a reference for a sculptor. There are instructions on how to make armitures (the center frame of the doll) and even sufficient instructions on wigging (adding hair). All in all, this is an excellent book for someone first entering the craft, and an invaluable reference tool for the avid doll maker. Five stars.

1/12 Scale Character Figures for the Dolls' House
by James Carrington exceeded my expectations. It has everything! I'm inspired to try Carrington's methods.
The illustrations are great and the photos are beautiful. I recommend this book to anyone interested in making their oun art dolls, or even those who are just curious as to how these beautiful dolls are created.

Well, it's a good book, but if you search for modeling and painting, this is not the book. The book shows the process with tips and diagrams, some images are repeated throughout the book, the parts about modeling is shown by drawings, some tricks are interesting, making molds (although very simple), and armature, the focus of book is not step by step, but a history of creating figures, it seems more a "how to draw" a figure and no "modeling" a figure. Information is poor, the majority of pages are drawings, diagrams, body, face and emotions, could have more information such as clothing, photographs and composition of figures, part of painting is poor, only shows painting of feminine eyes in drawings and no pictures of the models. It is a good book for beginners. For me the book has served mainly in the armature of body and mold although not that surprising. Excuse my English, but this is my opnion, I expected more from this book ...

I have tried to get into Jamie's classes on a couple of occasions only to have them fill up before I could sign up...I was thrilled when he came out with this book. I also just purchased his videos to accompany the book. He has updated some of his techniques--but not drastically. You will not be disappointed in anything you learn from this book.

Excellent service and condition A1. For the budding miniaturist like myself, this is an excellent book to start you on the path. It dosn't provide all the usual detail required concerning the various stages of managing the materials but the diagrams, explanations provided through photo's certainly provide subtantial insight & encourage you.
