Life without Scales is like a broken pencil... Pointless.I have yet to actually have my copy in my hands, but I've heard every song on it, and really, just completely adore it. It's DEFINTIELY worth buying. Every single note- melody, harmony (the harmonies are *amazing*), or a chord on the guitar- is, simply put, beautiful. Best part is, it doesn't stop there. Not only is the sound incredible, but the lyrics still completely draw me in every time, and still never fail to amaze me. All in all, one of my favorite CDs (when I get it!), and it could easily be everyone else's as well. You definitely won't regret buying it :)

Scales features skilled guitar playing and good songwriting. Grosshandler has a knack for writing catchy, melodic pieces nicely framing his gentle vocals. What really shines on Scales is the production. The self harmonizing is delicate and balanced with rich guitar textures reminiscent of pre-Dreamworks Elliott Smith or Lazarus. Nothing seems too forward or out of place. It is 'produced' without being over-produced. The professional sound is a nice break from the current deluge of lo-fi unproduced and over-compressed releases from independent artists.A fine recording from a remarkable talent. |
