Ron Manus is owner and CEO of Alfred Music Publishing, and co-owner of its sister company, Daisy Rock Girl Guitars. With five years of prior music industry experience in recording and retail sales, Ron joined Alfred in 1988 and today is the company's owner and CEO. He is chiefly responsible for managing all aspects of the company's MI & Pop publishing division, which creates products primarily for musicians who play guitar, bass, keyboard, drums, harmonica, mandolin, and other instruments.
Ron's energetic and creative contributions to Alfred have improved the company in many vital ways. In the 1980s, he managed the creation and growth of Alfred's New Media division, expanding the company's core strengths beyond book publishing and spurring the evolution of music instruction into contemporary mediums such as software, enhanced CDs, videos, and DVDs.
Ron played a key role during the 1990s when the company transitioned to its current team-based structure, a system that allows the business to react more quickly to changing market opportunities. In 1992, Ron improved Alfred's already industry-leading reputation by forming a partnership with the National Guitar Workshop, establishing Alfred as the exclusive publisher of their nationally acclaimed curriculum. In 2005, Ron was instrumental in the acquisition of Warner Bros. Publications from the Warner Music Group, which brought Alfred the music catalogs of artists including Led Zeppelin, The Eagles, Van Halen, Bruce Springsteen, Santana, Evanescence, Green Day, Nickelback, Michael Jackson, Madonna, Tony Bennett, and thousands more; composers including George and Ira Gershwin, Henry Mancini, Duke Ellington, John Williams, and thousands more; and legendary Broadway and movie music such as Wizard of Oz, Star Wars, Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Batman, Superman, Corpse Bride, and thousands more.
Ron is one of Alfred's top-selling authors, having over 100 published titles to his credit, including instructional items for guitar, bass, banjo, harmonica and ukulele. In addition to holding prominent positions with Alfred and Daisy Rock Girl Guitars, he also plays guitar and sings in the rock-solid, no-nonsense, punk rock band sASSafrASS.
I have used this book, primarily when I am in a hurry to find a scale to blow over some changes, and have found that the suggestions are accurate, usable, and some are interesting. I think that this book is very comprehensive and will take your playing to the next level if you spend some time with it.

This book is practical for any student or self-study individual wanting to learn and understand Modes & Scales for the guitar. The CD is very helpful to the auditory learner. Each lesson gives the Mode description, chords that exist in that mode, musical styles that are played in that Mode, and the intervals of that Mode. Avery helpful book for anyone.

This is just what I was looking for to study up on my scales and modes. It's right to the point, good diagrams, shows all positions on the neck in easy to read diagrams. Just enough theory to make it practical and good examples of licks using each scale/mode. Best book I've found on scales on modes.
