Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher

Wasn’t it only yesterday that we were sitting on the living room floor, playing with our Scalextric, and refusing to go to bed until we’d racked up a personal best fastest lap without spinning off? Actually, yes, it could have been only yesterday. Despite the fact that Scalextric is now more than 40 years old, it is more popular than ever. Now, Scalextric: The Story of the World’s Favourite Model Racing Cars takes a nostalgic look back at the cars, the track, and the accessories with which every Scalextric fan grew up; it then brings the story right up to date with the new developments that have kept Scalextric motoring on into the 21st century. A fabulous, picture–filled tribute. Rod Green’s interest in Scalextric began when his dad bought him a set for his fifth birthday. He watched, fascinated, as his father constructed the set, attached the transformer, and proceeded to “test” the cars. Rod was eight when he finally got a chance to play with it.

About the Author

Rod Green has worked as a journalist and editor for far longer than he cares to admit. While far from mechanically adept, he has taken an enforced interest in oily motoring things since the first time his first car (a second- or third-hand 1973 Triumph 1500TC) refused to start. Rod's interest in Scalextric began in the 1960s when his dad bought him a set for his fifth birthday. He watched, fascinated, as his father constructed the set, attached the transformer and proceeded to 'test' the cars. Rod was nearly eight before he actually got a chance to play with it.
