5.0 out of 5 stars Scamp ...... A Must !!, March 18, 2000

Jerry Jeff kept me company through college with "Viva Terlingua, A Man Must Carry On, Riding High and Driftin' Way of Life". As the years drifted, so did I, until I recently encoutered "Cowboy Boots and Bathin Suits", it's good to be home! "Boots and Suits" lead me to "Scamp", Jerry Jeff shines, and his music has grown with his experiences.

As for the editorial review comparing "Scamp" to Lovett's latest, I don't get it, Lyle is great but Jerry Jeff sings of years of experience and dosen't need the constant wit to sell or connect with his fans.

"Manny The Hat Man" .... would of loved to have meet him. "Scamp" is a must for Jerry Jeff fans, Great Stories. Thanks Jerry Jeff!

5.0 out of 5 stars Toe-Tapping and up-beat music, September 23, 1998
This review is from: Scamp (Audio CD)
This is a fantastic CD. It has catchy songs that make you want to dance and slow songs that make you want to reflect. The more you listen to it the MORE you want to listen to it. I'd also recommend getting "Night After Night", and "Cowboy Boots and Bathin' Suits" to add to your collection. Happy listening Buckaroos!!

Jerry jeff Walker, along with John Prine, remains one of my two favorite singer/songwriters of all time. Brilliant lyrics, stomping tunes and haunting melodies, jerry Jeff has NEVER made a bad album. I have all his vinyl from the 60's and 70's and, oh man, the memories connected to them! For some reason, I lost track after that, and had no idea that more albums were made--- Man, was I missing something! Catching up now. This one and Gonzo Stew are as good or better as any of the early ones, ALL of which you should get if you dig this one and YOU WILL!
Jerry had some weird growth in his long career, starting in a pychedelic band ( Circus Maximus, don't bother) to his first solo album, where the record company had no idea how to market him--- the photos on that cover made him look like come handsome lounge singer in the Sinatra mode, while the music was some really great folky stuff, real unique. One jewel on that record is a live radio recording (on Bob Fass's old midnight WBAI show) of Mr. Bojangles (HIS SONG,covered by so many). Then he hit his Texas stride, one of the real outlaw country guys, loved by Willie Nelson and hated by Waylon Jennings. Jerry remains one of the most under appreciated artists of out time--- to the mainstream at least, NOT to his loyal fan base--- Get on board!

I listened to Viva Terlingua in College too. I bought this disc because "Manny's Hat Song" was written about my mom's cousin.
