From the Manufacturer

Connect With Your Car Like Never Before

OBDLink MX Bluetooth is recommended for Android & Windows PC

OBDLink MX can be used as a diagnostic scan tool, trip computer, logger, and real-time performance monitor. This pocket-size adapter won't obstruct driver legroom and features unparalleled performance, intelligent sleep mode, hacker-proof security, exceptional third party app support, free lifetime firmware and software updates, and a modest price tag.

Supports OBD-II, Single-Wire CAN and Medium-Speed CAN

OBDLink MX provides wireless connectivity for all OBD-II protocols, plus advanced automotive networks commonly used in many late-model GM, Ford and Mazda vehicles. For supported GM models, you can control windows, door locks, and even remotely start your engine with the 3rd-party obdCANex Android app. On GM, Ford, and Mazda vehicles that use Single-Wire CAN or Medium-Speed CAN, you can also use enhanced PC diagnostic software like ScanXL to access ABS, airbag, and other systems that aren't available with an OBD-II-only interface.

Maximum Vehicle Coverage

OBDLink MX works with all 1996 and newer cars & light trucks sold in the United States (except hybrid or electric vehicles). It also supports EOBD, JOBD, and all other international variants of OBD-II. The OBDLink proprietary connection algorithm enables MX Bluetooth to connect to more OBD-compliant makes & models than any other scan tool.

  • Maximum vehicle coverage
  • World’s fastest Bluetooth OBD adapter

Includes Exclusive Android App and PC Diagnostics Software

OBDLink MX includes the free OBDLink Android app, which works exclusively with OBDLink products. The OBDLink app is packed with outstanding features that make it easy to access, graph, log and export real-time engine data. You can also clear the 'Check Engine Light,' read all diagnostic trouble codes and research them online, check emissions test readiness, and calculate instantaneous and average MPG. Want more gauges? Create a custom live dashboard directly on your Android phone or tablet! OBDLink MX also includes the free OBDwiz diagnostics software for Windows PCs, laptops, and netbooks. ELM327 compatibility allows MX to work with dozens of popular third-party OBD apps and software (including Torque and DashCommand). (Note: Apple iOS devices are not compatible with OBDLink MX).

Why Should I Buy OBDLink Instead of a Generic ELM327 Adapter?

In direct comparison tests, OBDLink MX outperformed every competing ELM327 Bluetooth OBD adapter, delivering up to 300% more data samples per second. The unparalleled response times let you enjoy detailed graphs and logs, plus ultra-smooth, realistic virtual gauges. More importantly, there are significant functional differences. While both devices are compatible with software and apps written for the ELM327, only OBDLink MX has overvoltage protection, which keeps it from catching on fire during a load dump condition. It automatically goes to sleep when not in use, saving you the trouble of dealing with a dead car battery. Unlike the generic ELM327 adapters, MX Bluetooth uses strong encryption and neither broadcasts its presence, nor uses an easy-to-guess PIN (‘1234’ or ‘0000’) to protect the communication link. A potential hacker would require physical access to the device, in order to connect to it. OBDLink MX ships in a nice retail box, with a 3-year warranty, and lifetime software and firmware upgrades. In summary, OBDLink provides the absolute best value for your money.

I bought this scan tool based solely off of a response of the owner of the company to an individual that wrote what I perceived to be a bogus review. After reading the owners response, I could feel his passion for his product and his dedication to providing the highest quality product he could make. That being said I bought this from Amazon and it arrived two days later.
I wanted to use this scan tool with my Acer A500 Android Tablet. In the meantime before it arrived I went to the google store and bought Torque Pro, Dash Command, and OBD Link, the factory software. I loaded all of the software onto the tablet and before I had received the OBD Link MX. I noticed right off a problem with an intermittent wifi connection but couldn't quite figure out what was wrong with the wifi. In the meantime the scan tool arrived and I set about pairing it via bluetooth with my tablet. I also noticed that Amazon had shipped the package in an envelope that crushed the package. it was also missing the CD from the package. I plugged the OBD Link MX into my 1998 K2500 Suburban and immediately the data was not coming through to the Acer A500. It was late at night, I was tired, so I quit fooling around with it. I did though, shoot off a very short, terse, email to the OBD Link customer service, thinking I would get a response a week later if that. I was prepared to send it back to Amazon, but, by the time I was ready to crawl into bed, lo and behold there was an email reply from the OBD Link Customer Service and I thought to myself, WOW, I have never had an email response so quick. I read it and it took me a couple of days before I could try out the suggestions. It took three more email exchanges over a week to finally resolve the issue. The slowness of figuring out the problem was on my end.

There's plenty of OBD to Bluetooth adapters out there. You can pick up the cheapies for $20-30. So how does ScanTool get away with charging 5x as much for this one? Quality and support.

If you're looking for a quick one-off to clear the Check Engine light before dragging your jalopy in for the state vehicle inspections, this isn't the device for you. Go ahead and read the reviews on the cheapie adapters. Pay attention to how long people have had them. You'll find the cheap adapters have major manufacturing quality issues, so short lifespans and incompatibilities are the norm.

However, if you're wanting to keep tabs on your car and want accurate data, this IS the device for you. For about the same price as your dealer will charge to run a diagnostic on your car, you can get this little gadget which can do the same thing.

This adapter has the fastest response times and supports the largest amount of data out of any of the OBD/Bluetooth adapters. If you're using a program like Torque, you'll want the extra data capacity/speed, as each gauge you add to Torque uses more bandwidth.

My favorite feature by far is the auto shutoff, and this adapter is the only one I'm aware of which has it. I leave it plugged in 24/7 in my car and it automatically shuts off after I turn off the car and comes right back on when I start the engine. It pairs nicely with my Motorola Droid Maxx, every time.

Initially I bought it to investigate a Check Engine light on my girlfriend's car, which ultimately lead to the dealer repairing her car for free as there was a TSB out on that particular engine error code. I now use it in my car to keep an eye on how it's running. My car has 190,000+ miles on it, so I'm a bit careful of what I do to it.

This Bluetooth powered OBD-II interface adapter has got to be one of the coolest products out there right now. It may be small in stature but it becomes a giant when coupled to a capable software solution such as the Android app "Torque Pro". I have used this device on three different occasions so far allowing me to successfully troubleshoot and clear those pesky "Check Engine" lights that won't get you past an emissions test. I was really impressed with the speed in which it retrieves the vehicle information including any freeze frame data available. Moreover, this tool is widely adaptable to function with other operating systems as well (i.e. Windows, Symbian). There is only one small problem I have ran into with this device. After you have poked around inside your vehicle's secret, dark digital bowels, monitored its sensors, fixed the problems and came away with a feeling like "YEAH!", it is too easy to forget unplug it and take it with you as there is no cord. But don't worry it will even shut itself off to avoid draining the vehicle battery.

A well built product that has worked flawlessly so far. Bluetooth connects quickly and reliably. The included ODBWiz software runs on Windows and for Android and you download ScanTool's free app. Both provide modest diagnostics and dashboard capabilities. For Android, I recommend Torque for $5. Torque works great with the code reader right out-of-the-box and has many nice interfaces. Nice for people with four gauge dashboards who want to see extra info such as Oil Pressure, Voltage, and Manifold Pressure.

No cons so far for this product. It is more expensive than the ELM 327 chip set code readers, but the STN1110 chip set is much faster and more powerful. The quality build, reliability, and included software make it a good deal.
