From the Back Cover

The Crompton sisters have a knack for falling in love with the most unlikely bachelors in Olivia Drake’s “enticing series…that readers will adore” (Romantic Times BOOKreviews).

The youngest of the Crompton heiresses, Blythe yearns to marry into the aristocracy to bolster her family’s place in society.  The widowed Duke of Savoy seems to be the perfect choice, yet it’s another man who sets her heart to pounding: the new footman, James. He’s devilishly handsome and far more fascinating than any of her noble suitors. And he alone has the power to stir her romantic dreams.

Little does she know, however, James Ryding is the true heir to the Crompton fortune. He’s posing as a servant in order to find evidence to prove her parents are imposters. By charming Blythe, he hopes to use her to regain his rightful inheritance. But as heat flares between them, he realizes that fulfilling his quest will mean ruining the beautiful, spirited woman who has captured his heart.

Blythe Compton is the youngest of the Compton heiresses. Blyth's ambition in life is to obey her parents and marry the highest titled suitor she can get her hands on. So when she meets the widowed Duke of Savoy, she goes all out to capture his attention and a proposal of marriage. But in the meantime, she rather fancies James, the footman. James isn't really a footman at all but a distant cousin of the Comptons. He believes they are impostors who have swindled him out of his inheritance. So he pretends to be a footman to uncover the truth. What will Blythe do when she finds out that James is only after her as a ploy to regain his inheritance? What will James do to stop Blythe marrying for money and not love?

Quite frankly by the middle of the book I didn't care too hoots what happened to James or Blythe. The writing was bland and implausible. The main characters were unpleasant, selfish, and users of others. The ending was ridiculous...everyone very quickly forgiving each other despite major betrayal. The only reason I gave this book 2 stars was because I did manage to finish it, and it was marginally better than Never Trust A Rogue (Heiress in London).

I do not enjoy Olivia Drake's writing at all. It's too juvenile for me. After struggling through the "Heiress in London" series, I will not buying any more of her books.

I had a hard time making it all the way through this book- it was completely unbelievable. At the beginning, Blythe is portrayed as very arrogant and spoiled- angling so hard to marry a title. Then by book end we are supposed to believe she fell in love with and married the footman?
The 'hero' here (and I use that term very loosely)completely manipulated Blythe to make her fall in love with him to expose her parent's deception. Then she forgives him so quickly... and confesses she still loves him- but she doesn't really KNOW him. How could you love someone who completely fabricated everything you knew about them?

Completely ridiculous and hard to believe. I was very disappointed!

I truly love Regency romances, but I guess I'll have to give them up since it's becoming more and more difficult to find one worth my money, and more importantly, my time. I did not read the first book in this series, but it sounded as though it at least had some plot (something sorely lacking in most romances nowadays). But after 2-3 chapters, I put it in the recyling box. The narrative is wooden. The heroine is unappealing. The plot had possibilities initially but by the time the heroine asks the real heir who is masquerading as a footman to also pretend to be a prince to distract a duke's daughter from preventing her father from marrying the heroine, it had become a farce, and not a good one! Save your money and your time. Reread a Georgette Heyer.

SCANDAL OF THE YEAR(An Heiress in London Novel) by Olivia Drake is a historical romance set in Regency England. The plot is easy to follow with a few twists and turns. The characters are believable, engaging and enchanting. While this is the third in "An Heiress in London" novel,it can be read as a stand alone. You will see some of the previous characters reappear. Book One "Seducing The Heirness",Book Two "Never Trust a Rogue".It has deceit, betrayal, love, romance, sweet sensuality, witty banter between the hero and heroine, web of deceit, and finding the truth. When expected love meets with a undeniable passion, only the truth can prevail. While the hero,James Ryding pretends to be a lowly servant,he is really looking for the truth of what happened to his cousins Charles and Edith Crompton. He is out to prove the Crompton's are imposters and what they did with his cousins and regain his rightful inheritance. What he meets is the beautiful, spirited, capable Crompton heiresses,Blythe, who yearns to marry well and into the aristocracy to help further her parents standing in society.Although,he is falling in love with Blythe,he is determined to prove her parents imposters.Blythe,in the meantime as a plan to capture a Duke. This plan involves James,as a Prince. But Blythe in falling in love with the lowly servant. When she learns his true identiy she is devastistated, for everything and everyone she throught she knew turns out to be a lie.EXCEPT,one thing James truly loves her and she him. This another great read from Olivia Drake. If you love stories with imposters, web of deceit, passion, finding justice and the truth you will enjoy this one. This book was received for the purpose of review from the publisher and details can be find at St.Martin's Paperbacks, published by St. Martin's Press and My Book Addiction and More.
