4.0 out of 5 stars Perfect Title for a Good Novel..., August 31, 2005
This review is from: Scandalous: A Novel (Paperback)
First, let me start by saying that you picked the perfect title for your book Scandalous. The acts of betrayal and the deceitful way of living for some of the male characters in your book is definitely a page turner. From the opening page that starts, "She always cried at beginnings," to the very last page that ends, "She was certain this latest beginning would lead to an undeniably good end," kept me anticipating all the characters next moves. I often found myself unable to put the book down.

I honestly can't say that I can relate to any of the experiences that your characters had experienced but I can say that when they experienced something tragic my heart went out to them. The constant struggle of Passion to try and get over the pain that was once inflicked upon her by her father and then by other men, was unbelievable. As I turned the pages and read every detail, I could picture exactly the locations and faces of the characters that were being described.

I think that your book was amazing. I have one suggestion to you, and that woukd be that you have a part two. I would love to know that happened to LaDawn and Passion. How was life for Passion now that she had been saved, given her life back to God, and had moved her family to a place that she thought would be better for them? Did Passion ever forgive her father for hurting her and her brother Sundiata for not protecting her sooner? How was Leah dealing with what Donny had done to her? Did she turn out like how her mother was? Did Donny ever find them? What happened to Sunny and Laura? Is MarVell trying to get back with LaDawn? Has his ways changed?

I have had the opportunity to read this book and find it to be very informative along the lines of how victims respond to abuse as the first question many people ask is "Why do they stay?".There are no clear cut reasons but Ms.Jermayne's book may help some to understand why.Her style of writing "flows" and does not "stutter" like that of some of the newer writers today.I am hoping that she continues to write.I am definitely a fan-Zandra B.
