5.0 out of 5 stars Great for small spaces
I love this high chair. We don't have room for a bulky chair, and this one fits perfectly in our small dining area and blends in nicely with our dining furniture. The wood is solid and high quality and the seat cushion stays in place. As noted in a previous review, the tray is small, but that's part of why it fits in our small house. I wonder if the people with all of the positive reviews have actually put this highchair through 6 months of use with a messy infant, or if they just review it right out of the box?? I loved this high chair from the moment I saw it (small, wooden, contemporary design...) but I am disappointed now! We are first time parents so I didn't have any practical experience to draw from when we bought it.

1. The finish is coming off, in chips, right on to my kid's hands. (And I have never even used the scrubby side of the sponge to clean it!)

2. The tray is difficult to get on and off, and ours has a big crack across it now because the tray slipped off one day and apparently it is not flexible enough to even handle a 6 inch fall to the wood floor.

3. The straps that hold the baby in are in no way removable, which means they stay filthy. This chair is hard to clean all around, but that is my biggest gripe.

We are getting rid of this chair at our earliest opportunity. Not sure what we will buy (I still will not go get some huge awful plastic recliner) but when it comes to baby stuff, function is more important than form. And how cute/cool is your highchair when it has stubborn food stuck to it and the finish is coming off? People who actually have kids (not just pregnant and shopping for a baby) know that!

We don't plan on using the tray for long, anyway--within a couple of months we'll take it off (easy to do without a screwdriver) and have the baby eat at the table with us. My baby has used other high chairs, and she's able to push food and cups off their trays, too; that seems to have more to do with my baby than the high chair. The only feature that poses a bit of a problem is the removable plastic tray cover. It can be difficult to reattach without pinching your fingers. The baby definitely cannot be in the chair when you're putting it on, or you risk pinching her fingers, too. However, there is no need to remove it to clean it with every meal-- wiping it down while attached does just fine. And because it's small, it fits in the dishwasher when it needs a more thorough cleaning.

5.0 out of 5 stars LOVE this high chair!, September 9, 2009
Boy am I glad I didn't listen to the negative feedback written about this chair. I waited for it to become available for about 3 months and it was totally worth the wait. It is the cutest most convenient little chair on the market and matches my dining room set perfectly! I was actually surprised that it matched because the color is called espresso which I thought would be black but its more of a chocolate cherry color...beautiful. This chair is well built and very sturdy. It is a perfect height for feeding so you don't need to reach up to your baby while sitting on your own chair. It is super easy to clean and the for deeper cleaning you just remove the plastic tray and throw the cushion in the washing machine. My baby also loves the convenient footrest. After testing out a few of those white plastic clunker chairs I"m even more happy that I purchased this stylish compact chair which takes up almost no room and is great for our small apartment. The tray also doesn't get stained like the white ones do. I have heard other people brag that their high chairs recline but umm.. why would you want your baby to lay back in her highchair? I find it odd. Anyway I really just felt like I had to write a review for this chair to let everyone know how great it is and that this is the highchair for you! (and no i don't work for svan or anka :)

4.0 out of 5 stars Overall good but has both Pros and Cons, June 3, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Pros: A nice quality piece of furniture - the wood, finish and construction all appear to be superior to our old wooden high chair. Our daughter finds it very comfortable as the seat is well designed. It has the best chair pad I've seen, it wears and washes well, and so nice to know it does not contain harmful materials like other chair's pads- no vinyl, pthalates, etc. Tray is adequately sized for a toddler and easy to clean and remove once you get the hang of it. It is nice that the tray cover is one-piece construction unlike our old high chair which had parts on the underside that were a pain to clean.

Cons: The tray setup is problematic since the tray positions are very limited by the design of the tray- still, we easily solved this problem by removing the front underside tray bracket so we could push the tray in more so that food wouldn't end up on our baby's lap. Only other con is that while the nice felt pads on the chair base are great for protecting floors and for easily sliding the chair, they are not so easy to keep clean if they get wet from baby spilling food/drink.

We loved the look of the chair, since it was small, made of wood, and not a big plastic piece of furniture in our kitchen. Unfortunately, it has been very disappointing. Our son, after only a couple months of using it, had black paint chips on his hands. The tray does not come off and on easily, so you have to work at getting it off and then the paint is scratched after just a couple of uses. I can't believe we paid $180+ for this product and the finish has come off. The felt pads on the bottom of the feet came off within the first month as well. I love the look of the chair, the portability, and it's size, but we will be buying a new chair for our son and next baby.

1.0 out of 5 stars Waste of money!, June 22, 2009
By
We bought two of these chairs for our twins, and we are very disappointed. It's awkward to get the baby into the chair and it's very difficult to work the safety harness in the tiny space of the seat. The chairs are incredibly hard to keep clean -- too many nooks for food to lodge in, and the upholstered seat has to be laundered to get clean. The seats don't hold up to washing well at all and the finish on the wood began to wear off after a few weeks. Also, my daughter has a tendency to throw her head back and she hits it on the back of the chair, hurting herself. For me, the practical drawbacks to these chairs far outweigh the aesthetic appeal!

1.0 out of 5 stars fooled, January 11, 2011
I bought this high chair a year ago. I wanted it because it folds and it is small. But I have had problems with it from the beginning.
1. The tray did not fit. I called the company, they sent me a new one and it still did not fit.
2. after only a few months the wood started coming off. My dark brown chair is now a faded brown.
3. The folding mechanism just broke.
4. It is impossible to get a good clean.

I just purchased a plastic booster seat from fisher price. I hope it will be more convenient.

2.0 out of 5 stars Pretty but not safe, September 20, 2010
By
Pros: Compact, aesthetically pleasing, matches our furnitu
Cons: Hard to clean, difficult to remove to wash plastic cover. white fabric cover can stain easily, but worse of all the seat belt is easy to climb out. My child can stand up on the chair while restrained and we've stopped using it since then and sits in the corner as I we use a hand me down fisher price high chair in the mean time.

This chair is definitely worth the money. Nice, sturdy, compact, modern and stylish. I got fed up with the big, cheap, bulky, plastic high chair we had for our one year old, so after hours of high chair searching online for a replacement,I finally decided on this anka high chair. At first, I was shocked to see how small it was in person, but compared the seat size to the seat size of the big plastic high chair we had and found out it was exactly the same size. It was extremely easy to assemble, everything being assembled with an allan wrench. It took all of ten minutes to adjust the seat, footrest and to add the platforms at the bottom. My son really enjoys this chair, he can see everything around him, before the big plastic chair was in his way. He likes being able to see what his Mommy is doing behind him in the kitchen. It is extremely easy to get him in and out of the chair and to remove the plastic tray cover. The tray cover is easy to wash and rinse in the sink since its so small. ***Just to make this clear though, this chair is obviously not for younger babies, even though the manufacturer says it is, its just right for bigger babies that don't slouch and toddlers. Overall, my son and I love this chair!

2.0 out of 5 stars Pretty but not functional or practical, July 14, 2010
We chose this highchair because we did not want a huge, ugly plastic highchair ruining the asthetic of our lovely renovated kitchen--BEFORE or son was born. Now our son has grown into an actual, active, mess-making toddler and I realize that once you have little children running around you can say bye-bye to a decorating style without kid stuff and primary colors for a while. I absolutely would not buy this chair if I had to do it over again. This chair is good looking and well built. However:

1. This chair is early impossible to keep clean. I am the opposite of a germ/clean freak but the unremovable crusted food on this chair even grosses me out.
2. Not adjustable enough to protect your clean child and his/her clean clothing from all the falling-food debris that the bib misses.
3. Not suitable for babies when then are in that stage of wanting to be upright but unable to support themselves.
4. Hard to get the tray off to wash and clean--this alone is a deal breaker in my book.
5. After a few months of use, this chair isn't so pretty anyway. It is like a piece of furniture, which you have to scour several times a day.
6. Ours came with an off-white cushion. Huh? For a baby?

Our Anka is sitting in our garage. We have a fisher price space saver in a just-fine neutral beige that costs a fraction of the price, isn't offensive to look at, and is about a million times easier to use/take care of.
