Book Description

October 1, 1996
"Scandinavian Sweet Treats," in the popular recipe-card file size stocking-stuffer format, includes recipes and notes about the best of Scandinavian coffee and desserts and was inspired by the Swedish love of coffee and sweets. Scandinavian hospitality is shown to a guest with a variety of cookies, pastries, and cakes served at the coffee table. In addition to the recipes, this book also contains memories shared by Scandinavian folks on the tradition of Afternoon Coffee in Norway, a Danish coffee table, memories of a Finnish coffee table, remembering Icelandic sweet treats, and a summer day picnic in Sweden. The stories are charming and remind us of a time that was less hectic than our own. Recipes include Cinnamon Coffee (Finnish), Norwegian Christmas Bread, Swedish Rusks, Norwegian Cookies, Swedish Sugar Twists, and a Butterscotch Dessert that is out of this world!

More About the Author

Most people never embark on a journey searching for truth, beauty, equality, and social justice. For me there has been no choice. During my youth, I was preoccupied with the quest for truth and beauty. As a photographer and writer, exploring visual truth and capturing beauty were my primary goals. I am a publisher and distributor for my company, Penfield Books. For more information, visit us at: www.penfieldbooks.com

I also have a photography business. For more information visit: http://joanliffringzugbourret.com/

In 2011, I published my autobiography of over 60 years of photography. I have photographed, Presidents, politicians, writers, artists, and many Eastern Iowans. My work has been exhibited in the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Cedar Rapids Art Museum. The complete autobiography is called, "Pictures and People: A Search for Visual Truth and Social Justice."

5.0 out of 5 stars Inspired by the Swedish love of coffee and sweets!, November 19, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Scandinavian Sweet Treats (Spiral-bound)
Scandinavian Sweet Treats, in the popular recipe-card file size Stocking Stuffer format, is chock-full of the best recipes and notes about Scandinavian coffee and desserts. Compiled by Karen Berg Douglas, this book features artwork by the great Swedish master, Carl Larsson. This cookbook is inspired by the Swedish love of coffee and sweets (served up to five times a day in some areas)! Scandinavian hospitality is shown to a guest with a variety of cookies, pastries and cakes served at the coffee table. Karen has presented us with the best of them in this little cookbook!

In addition to recipes, Scandinavian Sweet Treats contains information on the tradition of Afternoon Coffee in Norway, and memories shared by Scandinavian folks of afternoon sweets and picnics. The stories are charming and remind us of a time which was a little less hectic than our own. Recipes include Cinnamon Coffee (Finnish), Norwegian Christmas Bread, Swedish Rusks, Norwegian Cookies, Swedish Sugar Twists, and a Butterscotch Dessert that is out of this world! This is just a sample of the recipes which this book contains! You will never be at a loss for a bake sale or dessert again!

This book is excellent for personal collections and as a gift for anyone with a sweet tooth.
