Scarecrow and Mrs. King Season 1

Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com

Scarecrow and Mrs. King proves there was life for Kate Jackson after Charlie's Angels--and for Bruce Boxleitner before Babylon 5. Jackson's divorcée, Amanda King, a pretty lady with an '80s perm, lives outside D.C. with her sons, Jamie and Phillip. At a train station, she meets Boxleitner's Lee "Scarecrow" Stetson, who convinces her to do a "life or death" favor. The delivery to the man in the red hat doesn't go as planned, but King ends up cracking the case and a new team ensues. Scarecrow's boss, Billy (Mel Stewart), thinks a housewife will make a perfect decoy, though fellow agent Francine (Martha Smith) has her doubts. As she says about her colleague, "His methods might be unorthodox, but Scarecrow always delivers." Unfortunately for the apprentice agent, she can't tell anyone about her new career, not even her mother, Dotty (Beverly Garland, great value), who looks after the boys when she takes on assignments, offering different excuses every time. In Scarecrow, however, Amanda finds a friend as well as a partner--and a possible love interest, to judge from their longing glances.

If Scarecrow and Mrs. King bears comparison with Remington Steele, the cases that deal with the domestic arena help to set it apart, with perpetrators ranging from cooking-show hosts to cosmetics titans. The more dramatic episodes don't work as well, mostly because they feel like retreads from The Rockford Files (executive producer Juanita Bartlett has written for both programs). Also, Jackson is a deft comic actress, but her crying scenes don't quite convince. Still, it's a minor complaint about a light entertainment that wasn't aiming for documentary realism. Plus, it's the chemistry between the leads that led to three more seasons--and Boxleitner's GQ good looks certainly didn't hurt. --Kathleen C. Fennessy

Product Description

Goodbye, PTA...hello, foreign intrigue! Single mom Amanda King leads a quiet suburban life in Washington DC until the day a dashing stranger shoves a package in her hands with instructions to give it to the man in the red hat. In no time, Amanda is dodging bullets, foiling assassination plots – and finding herself drawn to the dashing stranger, agent Lee Stetson, aka Scarecrow. Of course, Scarecrow has no interest in a ditsy amateur spy, no matter how pretty. But she certainly is handy in a crisis! Share the Season One fun with stars Kate Jackson and Bruce Boxleitner in this fast-paced 5-Disc, 21-Episode Set of the lighthearted series that proves laughs and romance are powerful weapons in the battle to protect national security.

I just don't understand why scarecrow and mrs. king hasn't been released on DVD. This is one of my all time favorite shows. Kate Jackson and Bruce Boxleitner were the best partners on the show. Come on I know I am not the only Scarecrow and Mrs. king fan out here. They finally released Lois and Clark the new adventures of Superman on DVD then why can't they release Scarecrow and Mrs. King.

5.0 out of 5 stars Scarecrow And Mrs. King Fan September 23, 2005

How Many People Have To Ask For It To Get It Released??????, September 4, 2006

43 people have now taken the time to review this show and ask for its release on dvd (including myself almost a year ago).I have already given up on Dynasty and Hart to Hart being released in their complete series runs and purchased each complete series (probably illegally) from another website. The quality wasn't the best, but at least I have seen Dynasty and Hart to Hart from beginning to end.It looks like I will have to do that with Scarecrow and Mrs. King too.I am tired of waiting for it to be released. It amazes me that shows that are still airing daily on television in repeats (and many of them lousy ones at that)are being released every week to dvd and yet a quality show such as this is being ignored!

MY ORIGINAL REVIEW............SEPTEMBER 2005
I have to agree with Michelle.I loved this show growing up and would order each and every season as soon as they were released.Good luck trying to find shows these days without blood and gore, horrific violence, mental or physical cruelty. This was a show the whole family could enjoy.I have already pre-ordered season 1 of Hart to Hart,so come on and release Scarecrow and Mrs. King next.PLEASE.

5.0 out of 5 stars Scaring Up a Scarecrow: Where are the DVDS? November 15, 2006

Format:DVD|Amazon Verified Purchase
Considering the sheer number of television show DVDs released every year, I find it baffling why a show as enjoyable (it was my favorite show of the era) to watch as 'Scarecrow and Mrs. King' has not been among them. From the very first show in which Mrs. King (Kate Jackson) is inadvertently sucked into a world of handsome spies [believe me, Boxleitner would make any woman want to 'look for the man in the red hat'], international intrigue, and catty co-workers -- 'Scarecrow' takes us on a fun, exciting, and witty fantasy ride. The chemistry between Boxleitner (Scarecrow) and Jackson's characters is instantaneous but of course, neither is willing to acknowledge it to the other. Thus, we have the setup for several years' worth of good, exciting, and relatively wholesome entertainment. Along the way, the housewife's natural instincts for the world of espionage are polished and she earns the respect of her co-workers at the 'Agency'. But during those first four years, there are enough laughs, thrills, intrigue and romance to keep fans coming back for more. What more can I say? Oh yes. Bring on the DVDs!

Remember watching this in my early teens--good memories! Bruce Boxleitner was a hottie, and Kate Jackson was so good as the "average" single mom.
