4.0 out of 5 stars Superb job and suspense
The book starts out a little slow but speeds up after a couple of chapters after their mom gets kidnapped. Most of the suspense is in a wonderland R.V. Park where the two kids meet some friends and explore the shut down park with great anticipation. As the story gets to the last few chapters the kids get chased through the park by a couple of men who kidnapped their...

The book starts out a little slow but speeds up after a couple of chapters after their mom gets kidnapped. Most of the suspense is in a wonderland R.V. Park where the two kids meet some friends and explore the shut down park with great anticipation. As the story gets to the last few chapters the kids get chased through the park by a couple of men who kidnapped their mom. Using their skills from exploring the park with their two friends they try to outwit the two men. The author has a lot of suspense through the chase that will keep you reading until the end. Other than a few family problems most people will okay this book. I would recommend this book to the 11-14 year old age group.

This book is classic willo davis roberts. kenny and rick's mom disappers, and the police aren't convinced she didn't just walk off on her own, while the boys are sure her disappearance has something to do with the man in a black they saw her talking to the last time they saw her. rick and kenny go to live with their great-uncle henry and become friends with Julie and Connie, who help them investigate to try to find enough clues to convince the police. And then there is the inevitable scary, fast-paced encounter with the kidnappers in an abondoned amusement park at the end.

the story was fine. that's why i gave it three stars. but there wasn't anything special about it. the characters were ok; i didn't dislike them, and i didn't feel like they were strangers, but they just weren't all that deep. same with the rest of the book. there wasn't really any POINT to the story. i mean it made sense and everything, and it had a good plotline and wasn't boring or unbelievable, but there wasn't anything for me to take away with me. nothing moving.

so it's a fine book to get if you need a book to read. it just wasn't anything special.

5.0 out of 5 stars Scared Stiff, December 8, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Scared Stiff (Hardcover)
I read scared stiff when I was in the third grade in 1992, after my library teacher read it. It is such a good book that now in 1999, I remember the title after not reading it for seven years and I will be purchasing it for a much younger friend of mine. Even though it is at times unrealistic, it provokes the imagination of those who read it and imprints itself in a person's memory.

In this book, Rick, the main characters are an eleven year old boy and his younger brother Kenny who is seven. Teh boys'father is a truck driver who's load gets stolen one night. The mother asks the father if he had anything to do with it. The two dults get into a fight and the father leaves. The parents were not "divorced" the dad just left. Neighter parent filed for a divorce, and at the end the boy hopes that the father will come back home. The mother discovers much information about the case and is kidnapped so she will not tell. The kid-nappers try to capture her two sons so she will tell them what she knows. THe boys' friends, Connie and Julie, help them solve the mystery and escape from the kid-nappers. I am thirteen and I enjoyed this book thoroughly. It was very exciting and suspensful. I have read one other of Willo Davis Robert's books and found it equally exciting. She is a very creative writer and her books deserve 5 stars for mystery, adventure, and action in my opinion.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ricky & there Dangerous Mission, April 13, 2005
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Scared Stiff (Paperback)
This story takes place it the summer & the kind of end of spring This story is at Ricky's & his little brothers apartment with his parents & at his great uncles rev. at an rev . park. The setting is important because the apartment might have some clues to were there mom is & the rev. park is somewhere to sleep & there might be some clues there also.

This book is mostly about a little boy & his big brother Rick. They are trying to figure out about there dad, where he is & also were there mom is.With the help of two friends they had meet at the rev. park. The first half of the book is about how they are still so confused about all that is happpining. The second half of the book is about how they are looking & trying to figure out were there mom is.

My opinion this was a fabulous & well written. When I put the book down i was always anxious about what will happen next. I thought the book was perfect. i would recommend this book because it had allot of details & if you put the book down you would be itching for more.

4.0 out of 5 stars Scared Stiff, February 13, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Scared Stiff (Paperback)
Scared Stiff is a book by Willo Davis Roberts. It is about two young boys who came home from school one day to find that their mom was missing. Their dad lad left the family a few weeks before this had happened. They report their missing mother to the police detectives, but they quickly discover that the police aren't doing much to find their mother. They decide to find their mom by themselves. Until she comes back home, they have to live with their uncle in an R.V. park. They are given many clues to find their mother, but this isn't an easy task for the boys of their uncle, and it is always a very dangerous thing to do.
I love this book very much. It was very suspenseful and didn't give away too many clues. This book had me guessing until the end. It was hard to stop reading it. I got very attached to the characters in the story. This book was very descriptive and gave me many visuals. I could always picture the scenes in the story.
