Scared Straight is a blazing romp through Stooges/MC5-style punk rock. The New Bomb Turks blast away with typical reckless abandon, twisting a handful of distorted power chords into catchy little ditties, while vocalist Jim Weber spins all manner of clever wordplay. Scared Straight is considerably more cleaned up than the New Bomb Turks' previous releases, but it suits the band and the newer material well. The group is still sloppy, but the edges are a little less rough. Aside from the really bad cover artwork, this is a near-flawless, adrenaline-fueled (and intelligent) punk rock album. --Adem Tepedelen

Another Great Rock Record from the Turks!,

Is there any other rock band out that is as good as the Turks?? No way!! Scared Straight is all killer, no filler and captures the energy of the Turks manic live performances. "Wrest Your Hands" closes the record leaving you wonder if there is a better band around. Pick this one up!

I was in a small record store that was playing the Turks' album "Pissin' Out the Poison," and I HAD to ask who it was! The lead singer is definitely an Iggy & the Stooges fan...very reminiscent of an early Stooges era Iggy Pop. Soon after picking that album up I found their first release from Epitaph, and it didn't disappoint me at all. I'd have to say "Hammerless Nail" is my favorite- "Professional Againster" and "Jukebox Lean" are great tracks as well. Hell, the whole album is good. I don't find much modern-day punk that I like, but this one is an exception. (Check out Anti-Flag, too.) If you like fast-paced punk with a Stooges sound, this one's definitely a go!

This C.D. Rocks Jukebox Leans is the best!Heard the song on Simple Pleasures also one of the best Snowboarding vids around.
