More About the Author

Carolyn Keene and Franklin W. Dixon are the pseudonyms under which many ghostwriters penned the Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys series, respectively. Both series were created by Edward Stratemeyer, founder of the Stratemeyer Syndicate book packaging firm, in the late 1920s and early 1930s.

Stratemeyer's daughter, Harriet, and syndicate writer Mildred Wirt Benson were the two people primarily responsible for bringing the iconic character of Nancy Drew to life in the minds and hearts of millions of readers around the world.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nikki's Review, December 2, 2004
A Kid's Review
This review is from: The Scarlet Slipper Mystery (Nancy Drew Mystery Stories, No 32) (Hardcover)
This book is full of surprises. I liked it also because I'm a lot like the main character, Nancy. She's adventurous and has good friends. Since I'm a lot like Nancy, it made it easier for me to relate to her and get through the book without being confused.
This book is about a picture of a famous dancer wearing a pair of scarlet ballet slippers. That picture was stolen from Paris. Nancy and her friends soon find out why. Four smugglers hid jewels in the picture and snuck it into the United States. They wanted to sell the jewels to make money. Nancy kept running into these people and started to suspect something. Were they staying in River Heights? Her friend Mr. Fontain she met painted the painting and was a dark person, just like the people she suspected of stealing the artwork. Also they were the only dark people in town. The bad guys were also sending threatening letters to the painter, to make him leave. These people will do anything to keep Nancy from knowing the truth about them. Even tryed to kill Nancy.
Will Nancy survive this mystery? Will the truth be told and the bad guys go to jail?

I would recommend this book to anyone who likes mysteries, especially Nancy Drew cases. If you like suspense and adventure, you're sure to like this book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Outstading Page Turner, January 24, 2002
A Kid's Review
This review is from: The Scarlet Slipper Mystery (Nancy Drew Mystery Stories, No 32) (Hardcover)
I really enjoyed this book because it was a very exciting mystery. I had a hard time putting it down. It had an amazing outline to it. I still have a hard time believing that one person could think of a story like this one.
One of the main characters was named Nancy Drew. I liked her a lot. She was the one, with some help from her friends, who solved the mystery. She never gave up, even if she ran out of ideas to solve the mystery. Nancy always kept going. That is the main reason I liked her.
I think the best part of this book is when Nancy Drew and her friends figure out who is doing the crime and why. You will never guess who it is.
The ending of this book was very exciting to me. It was amazing how it all tied together at the end. The ending was also a little disappointing. The story stoped at a bad place. Even though the mystery was over I wish it would have kept going for a little more longer.
I personally think that anyone who is interested in a great mystery story should try this book. I am glad I did.
