Format: Audio CD Verified Purchase
This is a collection of Scarmolin's works that span his entire career. He was a teen prodigy and produced music well into his 60s.
It is a good representation of his work with 2 different string quartets. The quality of the music was exceptional with all of the string players being members of the New York Philharmonic Orchestra.
Different genres of music are represented and the mood ranges from lighthearted melodies to pieces displaying intense drama.
For those not familiar with Scarmolin, his music is at times hauntingly beautiful and always a delight to listen to. The violinists did an excellent job of bringing out the genius of his compositions. This is undoubtedly some of, if not his best work.
