Book Description

Sometimes the deepest scars are the ones you don't see.

Everyone in Jonesville thought that Bryce Evans had the perfect life in High School: he was the Mayor’s son, the quarterback for the football team, the boyfriend of the head cheerleader and had a 4.1 GPA. His acceptance to Notre Dame came as no surprise but when he chose to enlist in the marines instead everyone was shocked.

Lexi Lord was the quiet girl in school and kept to her small group of eccentric friends. She had no connection to any of the popular kids except for one incident on Prom Night when her path crossed with Bryce’s.
When Bryce enlisted Lexi was the only one that wasn’t disappointed and decided to send him anonymous letters as a way to feel connected to him. She stopped after a year because she felt there was nowhere for their relationship to go.

Fast-forward four years and Bryce is back in Jonesville and once again he and Lexi cross paths. Only he’s no longer the seemingly perfect man and Lexi’s no longer the quiet girl.

This time their relationship is quite different but both of them have secrets from the past and friends that threaten to ruin their chance at happiness together.

New Adult Contemporary Romance **Mature Content** Recommended for ages 17+ due to sexual situations and language.

A battle we can relate to: Love. Everyone just wants to be love and be able to love back. Lexi finally is loved and she loves him too. But is torn and it might be too late for her to find out what love is to her. We might not know anything until we are scarred. A great book looking into one girl's reality of life and love.

This book will make you mad at times, cry at times and yell 'No" at the end of the book because this is the first book in a series. Once you read this emotional story you won't know which guy to root for! Waiting for March 23 for the second book! What a cliffhanger!

4.0 out of 5 stars Something new... March 14, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
If you know anything at all about me, it is that I can never have enough books. I read the blurb on this one and dived in. Bryce feels responsible for the scars that Lexi has on her soul and the death of his best friend. He turns down a full ride to Notre Dame and enlists in the military. Four years later, his demons still ride him all the way back to Jonesville.
Lexi has always know that she was the plain jane of her school but with her best friends, Luke and Anna by her, it didn't matter. She has always loved Bryce from afar and when he enlists in the marines, she takes it has her chance to show him. She begins to write anonymous letters to him.
This story tells the action from both Lexi and Bryce's POV. This allows us to see that Bryce and the popular kids knew who Lexi was. The envied her grace and her relationship with Luke. Lexi seems hung up on living up a fantasy that she has built around Bryce but her thoughts drift back to Luke.
This book ends on a cliffhanger but the sequel comes out on March 22, 2013. Guess what I am buying? :)

*May contain spoilers, depending what you think is a spoiiler ;-) *
This by far is my favorite story of Helen's. It has everything friendship, loss, heartache, love. It has it all. It also has a bunch of laughs. Bryce is hilarious!! The FSoG in the library, priceless and one of my favorite parts! He also has some secrets I want to know about!!! Good Lord and then Anna!! I am soo angry at Anna and Bryce! Like seriously!!!! I can't see that going well. And the ending!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Total cliffhanger! Cannot wait until the second book comes out, must read series all! Best yet! <3
Need some more steamy Bryce and Lexi scenes though ;-)

1.0 out of 5 stars Vomit Inducing March 27, 2013
By Lizzie
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase

So, I've read all these 5 and 4 star reviews and couldn't disagree more. There is one thing I can agree on though: drama.

First off, the reason I bought this book in the first place was because I'm a sucker for a man in uniform. I'm not proud of it but it also said there were some intense sex scenes or whatever but... Um no? I only counted 2 in total and they were far from steamy. More like adolescent groping.

Also, the characters just didn't do it for me. First off, they were kind of unrealistic and very stereotypical. Sweet, angelic like heroine who's just soo beautiful but doesn't know it; a "golden boy" hero who is actually a nice, caring guy underneath all the arrogance; a hot, perfect best friend of the heroine who happens to be madly in love with her; and catty, dumb popular girls who act like they're in Junior High. Actually, they all acted like they were in Junior High, even the parents.

First off, how could she NOT know Luke has feelings for her when she sleeps and cuddles in his bed, constantly flirts and lets him... Tickle... Her? Again, Junior High. They're out of college already for Pete's sake!

Okay I need to stop here for now otherwise I will just go on and on and on about what a waste of money this book was. To sum it up though, the characters sucked, the story was rushed, and the author actually wrote "OMG" and "soo" in actually dialogue... No. Noooo.

Moral of the story, it's a horrible story.

1.0 out of 5 stars REALLY???!!! March 28, 2013
By Ashley
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This is my first review, and since I absolutely loathed this book it definitely deamed review worthy.
I thought the premise of this book was decent. Not exactly what I had seen before, but more or less the same. But this book was terrible.
I don't understand the flow of the story. There was absolutely too many secrets. You can only take so much of someone having a hidden past, the more you allude that there is more to the story the more frustrating it becomes. How about half of a revealed secret? Or better yet how about revealing a monumental one and then moving quickly past it.
The best way to describe this whole terrible experience, was to equate it to trying to read someone's word vomit.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not worth the time March 31, 2013
By Linda
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This has got to be one of the most poorly written books! It's almost like it was written in a high school creative writing class. I am an avid reader usually reading about 2-3 books a weak and I can't believe I wasted my time with this one. I thought this wad so bad that I'm not going to waste another $3.00 on the next one to find out what happens!!! That's how much I don't care!!!! Terrible

2.0 out of 5 stars Uh...really? March 15, 2013
By kmangi
Format:Kindle Edition
The sample was great and I think there was so much promise to this storyline. She was sweet (though ridiculously naive and childish for being 22 years old), and who doesn't love a soldier? But the story seemed rushed and the characters a little underdeveloped. I was going to give it 4 stars, but a few things deterred me. I can't even talk about her singing those Disney songs down at the Creek...that is too ridiculous to even talk about now. But the main factor that dropped my rating? Was no one else bothered that he slept with Lexi not even a few hours after her accidentally slept with her best friend? And how stupid was Anna? Some friend. I cannot tell you how much that bothered me. I will probably read the next book just to see how it ends up, but I was bummed at how this promising story turned out in the end.

The book lacked both chemistry and common sense. The lack of plot cohesion made it read like a bad soap opera.
