5.0 out of 5 stars Bringing The Gospel Of Jesus To America's Youth
Deicide are the greatest christian band since P.O.D. Just look at the cover of this album, there's a picture of Jesus. So many christians are afraid to show their faith that blatantly, Deicide should be commended for taking a stand for their faith. 3.0 out of 5 stars good comeback album
Let me take back what I said about this in my review on deicide(self titled). At first the only good track I could find on here was the title track, and the rest of the songs were all the same. Now I'm listening to this cd and realizing that there are other good songs on this cd than just #1. Now i find the tracks that used to be boring having complicated, but well done...

Deicide are the greatest christian band since P.O.D. Just look at the cover of this album, there's a picture of Jesus. So many christians are afraid to show their faith that blatantly, Deicide should be commended for taking a stand for their faith. Musically it's all acoustic ballads focusing on the love of christ and following God. Glen Benton has a soulfull R & B tenor that will bring you to tears. Scars Of The Crucifix is my favorite song of this album, which is about how Jesus healed Glen when he fell and hit his head on a cross in church, and also features special guest vocalist R. Kelly. This will be the next big thing in the christian music scene. Youthgroups, pastors and congregations already gather in hordes outside of their concerts. In Jesus name, amen.

5.0 out of 5 stars A triumphant return to form, January 14, 2006
This review is from: Scars of the Crucifix (Audio CD)
After releasing two albums which frontman Glen Benton described as "Pieces of (crap)," death metal gods Deicide finally escaped from their dreaded past record label, Roadrunner. So, now seven years since their last good studio album, this Florida five piece have made an album which is a great return to form for them. Earache records is definitely the most appropriately named label for Deicide, because Deicide's ninth release, "Scars of the Crucifix," may not be as fast as a previous album (i.e. "Legion"), but it's just as brutal. "Scars" has everything you could ask for from a Deicide album, and it has everything for a good death metal album: walls of relentless rhythms and ferocious guitars, a double bass which sounds like a lawn mower, guitar solos which are wild and none too technical, and short songs (the whole album is less than half an hour long). Plus, Glen may not be the world's best bassist, but no one has more inhuman vocals than he. Album highlights include the title track, which features one guitarist playing pounding riffs while the other guitarist plays buzzsaw riffs. "Mad at God," has cracking snare drums, and track four finds Glen making a retching noise over booming guitars. "When Heaven Burns" begins with an almost belching noise from Glen, before the machine gun drums kick in. This song also has three winding, bending solos. "Enchanted Nightmare" features a jackhammer rhythm, and "The Pentecostal," has cascading drums and scorching riffs. But this song, the album closer, is very surprising because it ends with a very cool, sharp piano solo. So, this is a great return to form for Deicide. Every death metal collection needs some Deicide, and if you're new to them, you might as well start here. Just make sure you have some Depends and/or Aspirin on hand.

5.0 out of 5 stars Extremely Brutal, March 15, 2004

Scars of the crucifix, proberly one of the best albums released since Serpents of the Light. The title track sets the stage for the rest of the album. If you like brutal death metal this is a must have. And if your a dedicated Deicide fan I don't even have to tell you to pick this up.

great death metal, as one would expect from the legends. i am usually very picky about when newer stuff comes out, but i'd say this is one of their best, easily.

4.0 out of 5 stars Deicide returns., May 24, 2005
This review is from: Scars of the Crucifix (Audio CD)
After a long hiatus and two hopelessly horrible albums (Insineratehymn and In Torment In Hell), they've finally got their acts together and deliver a decent release. They're impressive to see live, which is why it sucks that the band fell apart. The album sounds around the lines of Serpents Of The Light and the self-titled in my opinion. The reason this gets a 4 is because some songs on here were really awesome, yet there were about two tracks that were totally mediocre, and Glen's lyrics were completely redundant (re-hashed ideas from previous recordings at best). Seriously, how many albums can you release singing the same topic over and over? While all religions are mythology (layman's terms: myths, which also translate into B.S.), there are other evils in the world besides evangelists. Try attacking something else.

5.0 out of 5 stars not into the heavy?step aside!, May 1, 2004
This review is from: Scars of the Crucifix (Audio CD)
first off I agree with everyone on here-the album is one of Deicide's top three in my opinion!everything is great on it and proves that some folks are still willing to go that extra mile to record an album of unflinchingly raw power(that doesn't involve asking the question"but what will the slipkot fans think?will THEY buy it?)."Mr. Houston"is right on the $-people who enjoy the lackluster sounds of "the knot",damageplan, hatebreed, coldplay, rob zombie, and on and on will probably make the "just smelled a white castle fart"face when they hear scars of the crucifix,so they may be more comfortable sticking with the bands that you parents can get into.and needless to say,if anyone reading this is in fact a Christian(and there's absolutely NOTHING wrong with that!)you may be offended just a little by the lyrical content as a whole-not to mention the fact that I've never met a true Christian who listens to death metal and doesn't feel as though they've committed as sin by doing so.with that said, read 99% of the other reviews and make the wise choice to purchase this album of raw blasphemies and always remember-"for those about to rock,GB salutes you"!

It's the typical issue sometimes with every deathmetal new release always not being as good as before or kinda mediocre comparing to their early cd's...Well, that's not the case with deicide--infact, to be honest ? I thought, "scars of the crucifix" by deicide is their best work yet & i love all of their previous releases...Im an huge deicide fan--i think their sound is one of the best yet! A masterpiece! Buy it!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars when you think they couldnt CROSS any more lines....they do, February 27, 2004

if ur a deicide fan, u probably didnt expect this album to be so....well greater than anything they have ever done before. the already highly technical drums and guitar riffs are now even more unpredictable and speedy. a slightly new songwriting method perhaps for the satanic ones. glen, especially in the opening track, has gone even more insane with the shredded throat vocals, ranging from a mighty growl to a demon like screech. if u like deicide, please, this is a must, i dont see this album being topped anytime this year. its just too good, a half hour of soil ur pants death metal, the way it should be. death metal is alive and WELL!!

5.0 out of 5 stars DEICIDE- The Best Death Metal Band Out There, February 26, 2004
This review is from: Scars of the Crucifix (Audio CD)
I've been following these guys for a long time(1987). I can tell you this, as far as I'm concerned there aren't any cd's between Scars Of The Crucifix and Serpents Of The Light. Just forget about the last to releases and pop this baby into your cd player. Make sure you crank the volume up so the solos blow your brain away ahahahahaha. I'm glad my boys are back and from what there saying I can't wait for the next one. ...
