Editorial Reviews

Scars on 45 present their major label debut with this self-titled album on Chop Shop/Atlantic Records. The band is comprised of singer/guitarist Danny Bemrose, vocalist Aimee Driver, bassist Stuart Nichols, pianist David "Nova" Nowakowski, and drummer Chris Durling. Scars on 45 create music that is both aurally and musically captivating.

The band's single "Heart on Fire" was featured on the Vol. 4 soundtrack to ABC's "Grey's Anatomy," and were subsequently named on of VH1's "You Oughta Know" Artists of 2012. To kick of 2012, the band toured with Anya Marina and The Fray.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must Have Addition to Your Playlist April 11, 2012
Format:Audio CD
After more than two years in the making--Scars on 45 fans are thrilled that this album is finally available. While the great majority of you have probably never heard of this 5-piece indy acoustic band from England, the band's entrenched fanbase has been enjoying Scars on 45's two EPs and clamoring for more. We've been cheering them on as they've criss-crossed the United States with the likes of Matt Nathanson, The Fray, One Eskimo, Jack's Mannequin, and Ingrid Michaelson, and cheering even more loudly as they hit the road for their first headline tour. We've also come to love them through their cheeky Youtube tour diaries where we've had the opportunity to get to know them up close and personal. Scars fans love them as much for their down to earth personalities and the obvious love that they have for what they do. We've tweeted them, we've facebooked them....and they've responded back. If the fans are there for this band, they are also there for us.

Now let's talk about the music. I can honestly tell you that there is not a single bad track on this entire album. You may love some of the songs more than others, but every single one of them is one worth putting on repeat and learning word for word. The songs, all written by the band's leader, singer/guitarist Danny Bemrose, are all well crafted and sometimes a bit gut wrenching in their simple heartfelt honesty. The voices of Bemrose and Aimee Driver combine perfectly with compelling harmonies redolent of classic Fleetwood Mac. The piano accompanyment from Nova (David "Nova" Nowakowski) is rich and resounding and combines with Stuart Nichol's bass and Chris Durling's driving drum beat to produce music that will continue to play in your head even when your ipod needs recharging.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Group, Great Music, Great CD!!! May 22, 2012
By Jake
Format:MP3 Music|Amazon Verified Purchase
I first came across Scars on 45 with a free down load from Amazon and eagerly awaited their first full length CD. They did not dissapoint. They really have a nice sound with great harmonies and there is not a single bad track. It's hard to believe that Music was their back-up plan.

The only thing that bummed me out was finding out there is now a Deluxe version available with 15 tracks (I pre-ordered the 10 track version prior to its 10 April 2012 release).

The 15 track Deluxe version is comprised of their 10 track full length CD and all of the songs from their 2 mini EP releases (essentially, all of their music that is available).

Do yourself a favor and download the 15 song Deluxe MP3 version that is currently available on Amazon for $7.99 (or $11.99 for the CD). You won't be dissapointed. You could also just go for the 11 song download currently priced at $2.99. If you like what you hear (and you will) you can buy the other 4 songs individually (currently $0.99 each). Come to think of it, that is actually the better deal.

5.0 out of 5 stars Suprised and impressed May 30, 2012
By Pinger
Format:MP3 Music|Amazon Verified Purchase
When I first downloaded this album, I actually had no idea who this band was or what they have produced prior. I only purchased it because amazon was offering it for just $2.99 and I was in the mood for some new music. Well, I am now addicted to this album. Scars on 45 has a nice soft-rock kind of feel to them and I love how some of their songs has shared male-female vocals. In particular, songs like "Heart on Fire", "Don't Say", and "The Way That We Are" have been on repeat rotation everyday since I've listened to them. I highly recommend downloading this band, even if it's not on sale anymore.

5.0 out of 5 stars Melodius May 4, 2012
By Leah
Format:Audio CD
This cd is "prettier" than my usual fare. That being said, I recognize that forpeople who especially like this type of music, this would be a 5 star. For me it is a 4, as I like a harder beat, but for softer acoustic fans, this is great. I wish the woman singing had more leads, as her voice is stunning.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing debut album! Impressed beyond words!!! February 3, 2013
By K.P.
Format:Audio CD
I heard one of this band's songs on television then purchased their debut album, with an expectation that I would enjoy at least some of the music. Boy, did this album exceed my expectations by a mile! What a FANTASTIC work they put together here! Every single song, without exception, is worth a listen on this album. It's one of those rare albums too that you can play throughout, put the whole thing on repeat, and still enjoy all of it as it plays through, never wanting to fast forward at all. What a finish too, with "The Way That We Are", followed by "Insecurity". Simply amazing how good these songs are. My favorite Brit band has been KEANE (and still is), but this group just made the list instantly with this one album. I hope they keep up the good work because they sure got started on the right track with this album. Scars on 45, I give you an A+++ for your work here!

4.0 out of 5 stars Likeable, Three Point Five Stars, Maybe More... September 3, 2012
By snow47
Format:Audio CD|Amazon Verified Purchase
I heard "Give Me Something" on the radio last year, and had to learn who the band was, because that track is one of the sharpest compositions I had come across in awhile. The lyrics connected with my own personal frustrations in a sad-but-hopeful sort of way, and the music is gorgeous. Then, I caught the band playing "Heart on Fire" on TV (Leno, I think), which was another dose of gorgeous. Based on those two songs, I eagerly pre-ordered this album, expecting to love it like crazy. On the first couple of listens, however, I found myself disappointed, thinking that maybe I had read too much into those first two songs that I heard. I felt that way for awhile, but lately this album has been growing on me. I would say that these songs, for the most part, need to be listened to multiple times to sink into your musical soul. (Yes, I realize that that is the case with all music, but with this album, it felt like a different breaking-in process than usual.) It is particularly a good album for driving along a forrested stretch of highway on a rainy day. I think that I was expecting more of the sort of "lean" sound of "Give Me Something"; a lot of the other tracks have more of a busy, lush mix going on, which is not a bad thing, it just is what it is. Also, I am not sure if the songwriting is really in my wheelhouse, but again that is just a matter of personal taste. My favorite thing about Scars on 45 is the female vocalist, Aimee. I just adore her voice, and thus my favorite track is probably "Change My Needs." I wish that she had more turns as lead vocalist. Ultimately, I like these guys...I am just not sure how much yet.
