5.0 out of 5 stars A Must Have Addition to Your Playlist April 11, 2012
Format:Audio CD
After more than two years in the making--Scars on 45 fans are thrilled that this album is finally available. While the great majority of you have probably never heard of this 5-piece indy acoustic band from England, the band's entrenched fanbase has been enjoying Scars on 45's two EPs and clamoring for more. We've been cheering them on as they've criss-crossed the United States with the likes of Matt Nathanson, The Fray, One Eskimo, Jack's Mannequin, and Ingrid Michaelson, and cheering even more loudly as they hit the road for their first headline tour. We've also come to love them through their cheeky Youtube tour diaries where we've had the opportunity to get to know them up close and personal. Scars fans love them as much for their down to earth personalities and the obvious love that they have for what they do. We've tweeted them, we've facebooked them....and they've responded back. If the fans are there for this band, they are also there for us.

Now let's talk about the music. I can honestly tell you that there is not a single bad track on this entire album. You may love some of the songs more than others, but every single one of them is one worth putting on repeat and learning word for word. The songs, all written by the band's leader, singer/guitarist Danny Bemrose, are all well crafted and sometimes a bit gut wrenching in their simple heartfelt honesty. The voices of Bemrose and Aimee Driver combine perfectly with compelling harmonies redolent of classic Fleetwood Mac. The piano accompanyment from Nova (David "Nova" Nowakowski) is rich and resounding and combines with Stuart Nichol's bass and Chris Durling's driving drum beat to produce music that will continue to play in your head even when your ipod needs recharging.

My personal favorite on the album is "Beauty's Running Wild," but the band's single "Give Me Something" made it into the top 3 on the AAA adult contemporary charts last summer and was named one of Amazon's best songs of the year in 2011. "Heart on Fire" was selected as the lead song on the current season sountrack for ABC television's Grey's Anatomy. Those three songs alone are cause enough to purchase this album--but once you start listening you will come to love songs like "Burn the House Down," "Insecurity," and "Change My Needs." This album also provides a showcase for Aimee's solo voice. Did you know that she had never sung in front of anyone before being asked to perform with Scars on 45? She is a long time friend of the keyboardist, Nova, and one day they were just hanging out and he overheard her singing and it floored him. Nobody knew she could sing, least of all Aimee herself.

Bemrose and Nichols started off as professional soccer (football) players in the UK--becoming musicians was their back up career move. You've got to smile at that! Oh, and Miss Driver is also an accomplished soccer (football) player as well having played for Bradford City's Women's Football Club.

Who do they sound like? Most often they are compared to the likes of Snow Patrol, Keane and Coldplay--but with their male and female harmonies I do feel the Fleetwood Mac comparison is most warranted. Preview the music and then add it to your shopping cart. You won't be sorry. Then add them to facebook and twitter and keep an eye out for a tour date in your city because this band is fantastic live. Be sure, also, to check them out on Youtube. They have a wealth of live recordings from various shows...and the aforementioned tour diaries that will not fail to amuse you.

Happy listening,

April Steele

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Group, Great Music, Great CD!!! May 22, 2012
By Jake
Format:MP3 Music|Amazon Verified Purchase
I first came across Scars on 45 with a free down load from Amazon and eagerly awaited their first full length CD. They did not dissapoint. They really have a nice sound with great harmonies and there is not a single bad track. It's hard to believe that Music was their back-up plan.

The only thing that bummed me out was finding out there is now a Deluxe version available with 15 tracks (I pre-ordered the 10 track version prior to its 10 April 2012 release).

The 15 track Deluxe version is comprised of their 10 track full length CD and all of the songs from their 2 mini EP releases (essentially, all of their music that is available).

Do yourself a favor and download the 15 song Deluxe MP3 version that is currently available on Amazon for $7.99 (or $11.99 for the CD). You won't be dissapointed. You could also just go for the 11 song download currently priced at $2.99. If you like what you hear (and you will) you can buy the other 4 songs individually (currently $0.99 each). Come to think of it, that is actually the better deal.

5.0 out of 5 stars Suprised and impressed May 30, 2012
By Pinger
Format:MP3 Music|Amazon Verified Purchase
When I first downloaded this album, I actually had no idea who this band was or what they have produced prior. I only purchased it because amazon was offering it for just $2.99 and I was in the mood for some new music. Well, I am now addicted to this album. Scars on 45 has a nice soft-rock kind of feel to them and I love how some of their songs has shared male-female vocals. In particular, songs like "Heart on Fire", "Don't Say", and "The Way That We Are" have been on repeat rotation everyday since I've listened to them. I highly recommend downloading this band, even if it's not on sale anymore.
