First time listener - New Fan!!,
By
This review is from: Scars and Souvenirs (Audio CD)
I bought this CD because I heard BAD GIRLFRIEND on the radio. I liked that song so well that I thought I would take a chance on buying the CD in hopes I might like other songs. Their basic sound reminds me of Nickleback, but with more of an edge. Now I'm not a teenager by any stretch (over 50 and a grandmother)and my taste has never run to hard rock, but never say never. (This group, Theory of a Deadman, would probably cringe if they read this.) The more I listen to this CD, the more I love it. I'm sure I am not their average fan, but after playing it in my office, several of my work associates are also new fans. There is not one track I don't like. Although I particulary like Sacrifice and the poignant Wait for Me; Bad Girlfriend remains the track I want to hear when I'm on the road. I am sure I'll sample and buy more of their music. Who knows? With music this good, I may show up at a concert!!

Beating out there sophmore album, 'gasoline' scars and souvenirs is an improvement, but its still a let down compared to thier self-titled debut so don't get to excited. The first five songs are good, but then it seems like they put some songs on the cd just to fill up space, as all bands seem to do. ::sigh:: Not bad if your a true theory fan, but some heavier stuff would have come in handy on this so-so album.

Great Third Album,
This review is from: Scars and Souvenirs (Audio CD)
This is a great third album by TOAD. I like every song on this album. The lyrics to So Happy and Hate my Life are excellent. There is not a bad song on this entire album.
They put on a great live show as well. Buy this album!!!!!!

Not Nickelbak?,

Okay, so a new TOAD CD is out, and all the Nickelback references are already being stirred up. Let's get this straight, they were discovered by Nickelback, and Tyler has a very similar voice to Chad, but since when does that mean that just cause someone has a voice similar to someone else you gotta say all they make is generic crap? Well in the end it shouldn't but sadly it does. My word of advice, is if you liked any of TOAD's first stuff check this out, and sadly it's true if you like any of Nickelback's stuff you'll like this.
Though as a CD in general, if you like a hard rock ballad type CD you'll enjoy this.

Though I didn't like this album quite as much as the first two, it is still a good album. Yes, there are similarities in sound and vocals between Nickelback and TOAD, but one of the greatest distinctions, in my opinion, is whereas Nickelback tends to only have 2, maybe 3 good songs per CD with the rest just filler, virtually every song on a TOAD CD is decent, and there is never a bad song. Personally, I like TOAD better. They rise above Nickelback in just about every aspect except fame. I hope they eventually earn the fame they deserve.

Wow....I definitley did not see this coming....Best album of 08',
This review is from: Scars and Souvenirs (Audio CD)
I was able to get my hands on a copy of this album 3 weeks ago. For some reason my local record store got one copy early and i was lucky enough to purchase it (and for only 6$). Being a fan of their last album i was looking forward to purchasing it and was expecting another good solid album. But once i started listening i was immediately proved wrong. The album seemed too good to be true and i was just waiting for there to be a flaw on the album, like most albums have, but there were none. I've constantly been listening to it over the weeks and i am yet to get close to becoming sick of it. This album is incredible from top to bottom and i would never have expected this. There is a nice balance of softer rockers and hard rockers, and they've managed to change up their sound a little bit while remaining true to their style, and are consistent all the way through. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this album, not only because it is by far their best effort to date, but also it is one of the best album i have heard in years, and might be the best album i own (and i own several hundred albums). Every song is terrific so its hard to choose a favorite, but i really love "By The Way" and "All Or Nothing". If you've never heard of them give them a chance because this is a must have for any modern rock fan, but is not only limited to those who just like rock. If this album does not make this band huge in the states then i don't know what else will. Think of Theory as Nickelback...but 5 times better (and i love nickelback).

Excellent Album,
This review is from: Scars and Souvenirs (Audio CD)
I get sick and tired of people always comparing this band to Nickelback. The only reason people say this is because they were produced by Nickelback. I didn't know they were produced by them until after I listened to their first and second cd, and not at one point did I think of Nickelback. Sure, their not the most original band in the world, but it is a fact that their songs are 100 times better than Nickelback and they get 100 times less credit than Nickelback.
Once again, Theory of a Deadman didn't fail to impress me, excellent songs on every cd, excellent live band, excellent new album.

Everyone Complains,

I was just looking over the reviews just to see what everyone said about it after listening to the album, and all i seem to see is everyone talking about TOADM ripping off The Cult, which they actually did not the lyrics arent even the same all they did was sample their music, in which almost every hip-hop record does. But they made the sound more to our time. All they did was made it a harder music track sound its not a bad thing. the album is very good if you are a fan go on get this its worth it.

As the title says, this is a fine album for those of you who like Nickelback; in fact, Chad Kroeger apparently helped them early in their careers, and their sound reflects it. Lots of good heavy guitar work, catchy riffs, plenty of slower, more soulful stuff mixed in, and overall a pleasant listen. The title is appropriate - the album seems focused on the "scars and souvenirs" of relationships (mostly failed). "Bad Girlfriend" has gotten plenty of airplay (edited), but my personal favorites are the tongue-in-cheek "Hate My Life" and the revenge tune "Little Smirk." This is an album where the vast majority of tunes are good listens - very little schlock here, which I appreciate. Required listening for Nickelback devotees...

My teenage daughter turned me onto TOAD. I was touched by Wait For Me, I cry whenever I hear the song. I also love By The Way.
