Since I already own every scarf and shawl knitting book available, I didn't expect to find anything new in this book, but WOW! Carri Hammett's new book offers fresh inspiration for luxury hand dyed yarns and gorgeous ribbons. The designs are truly beautiful, combining colors and textures in a wonderful way. I would love to knit almost every design in this book.

If you are going to buy only one scarf book, this would be a great choice; and if you are a knitting bookaholic this is a worthwhile addition to your library.

I couldn't wait for this book to come out and it was worth the wait. A great one to add to your collection. The patterns are very easy to follow with knitting labs for certain techniques if one is not familiar with a particular stitch.

The yarn used is just fabulous....but save your pennies because it can be expensive...I have substituted some of the yarn which still creates a wonderful product.

I am on my second mash potato shawl using the yarns suggested, which runs approximately $90 or so by getting the yarn on Ebay...its a beautiful shawl and highly recommended to anyone who loves to wear them like I do!

A great book!

with basic kitting patterns you can make some amazing scarves and shawls. Directions are clearly written with pictures of examples in different yarns. I've made several scarves and a shawl for gifts each turn out wonderfully and were enthusiastically received. You'll never be stuck again of what do with the many differnt yarns now available.

If you've been knitting scarves and shawls for years you won't find anything exciting in this nicely designed and organized book. However if you are new to knitting and scarf making, you would like this colorful book. It will introduce the new knitter to the use of interesting yarns and how to combine them. This would make a great gift combined with some skeins of fabulous new yarns for the new knitter. But if you are experienced, pass this one by.

I am a novice knitter and I love this book! As a beginner, I wouldn't have thought of some of the yarn combintations suggested in the patterns, but they are wonderful. True, the patterns are very basic (great for this beginner), it's the yarn selections that make these styles so interesting.

I'm so new to knitting but want to be able to craft nice things. Hammett's book is a big help in making novice patterns look beautiful using a variety of specialty and standard yarns. I look forward to doing more of the patterns that she shares in her book and hope to improve my craft.

Very simple patterns with novelty yarns. Not worth the price as any knitter can do this. Good for beginners, but not useful for more experienced knitters.

I am a novice knitter (knit, purl, knit, purl). Even I could understand the instructions given in this book. I am on my second scarf and am really enjoying the time spent doing these projects.

As a newbie knitter, I LOVE this book! Scarves are what everyone tells us to start out with, but they quickly become boring to knit. The ideas in this book are creative riffs that are simple enough for beginners to try, yet high-impact enough to be satisfying to knit. And the patterns/yarn choices get progressively more challenging to keep things interesting. Plus the author offers some really useful tips that more experienced knitters probably take for granted but new knitters really need (e.g. cast-on an odd number when doing a seed stitch so you always end on a knit stitch and don't have to worry about which side you're knitting). This book (along with a 35-70% off moving sale at my local yarn store!) is helping me knit gorgeous and special scarves as holiday presents for all my family and friends.

I'm a fairly new knitter and really liked this book. The projects are very do-able, don't take forever and results are nice. What I like most:
1) there are a couple of versions of each pattern in different yarns
2) the book has little "lessons" to reveal some of the mysteries of knitting
3) supply lists include the number-skein system for weight/type of yarn for easy substitution
4) the book has clear instructions that enabled me to FINALLY master the seed stitch!!

I know my list seems simple to some, but those things are really important to me as a new knitter. It's nice to have a book other than Teach Yourself Visually to turn to for an actual project for success - and good seed stitch instructions.
