From the Author
I did not set out to write an intellectual dissertation about parenting. I am a busy parent and I wanted to give other busy parents an easy to digest guide that offered enough depth and scope to be worthwhile. We need to protect our children from the scary issues of today, but we must also prepare them and give them the tools they need to cope when we are not there. And we must fill their hearts with the love, beauty, goodness and joy that are the realities of life not shown in the headlines.
"Scary News" is the title of this book, but joy is the essential message. As we are bombarded with news of the harsh and ugly realities in the world, we must work to consciously bring more joy into our lives. Parents will find it encouraging, uplifting and reassuring. The suggestions are real and practical for todays families. However, the topic is meaningful for more than parents and any reader will find ways to decrease the power of fear and discover ways to live a more joyful life.
