This is a great book for any kid interested in aliens and monsters and all of that other spooky stuff. It gives short histories of these legends and describes the possible scientific basis for them (did you know the myth of vampirism may have stemmed from victims of a disease called "porphyria," with symptoms such as sensitivity to light, which can be treated with high doses of iron- the kind of doses found in blood!) It explains creepy things in a smart, yet easy-to-understand and interesting way.
