the kaleidoscopic hail horror hail would be very difficult to surpass in terms of genre-bending weirdness, so sigh didn't even try with this underrated followup. here their objective was to strip down to a cogent metal unit, not discarding their signature extraneous weirdness and recurring symphonic themes, but nonetheless keeping a safe emphasis on structure. ironically, this album's conservatism makes it a rather unique entry to sigh's catalogue.
it's not this band's best, but it is very good, and they probably needed this breather before the way more mindblowing psychedelic black metal bombshell imaginary sonicscape.
