1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing
My disappointment in this book was so strong, it prompted me to write this review.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Spiritual Aspects of Scent, July 16, 2004
This review is from: The Scented Veil: Using Scent to Awaken the Soul (Paperback)
"Scented Veil: Using Scent to Awaken the Soul" is an outstanding contribution to the field of aromatherapy. Author Carly Wall, is a certified aromatherapist and long time student of the work of psychic Edgar Cayce; both interests meld beautifully in "Scented Veil." The distinctive quality of this book that makes it stand out from the rather crowded field of aromatherapy texts is Wall's tight focus on the connection between scent and the psychic realm. Though a slim volume this book contains an impressive amount of specialized information. There are fascinating yet instructive chapters on how astral travel, meditation, out of body experiences, tranquility, lucid dreaming, divination, healing and even the kundalini flow of energy is enhanced by natural scents. A wide range of cultural orientations to the topic is presented from both the east and west--the information on Egyptian use of scent is excellent. The psychic development of the reader is nurtured throughout the book. The ultimate goal of "Scented Veil" seems to be the spiritual growth of the soul and enlightenment of the reader through connection to the psychic aspects of scents. I have done a great deal of research on aromatherapy and its connection to spirituality; "Scented Veil" is one of the best books recently written on this largely untapped topic.

Wow! What a fantastic book! Who would have thought about using scents in this way :) This book is not only informative but is full of great mood-altering methods. You can ease depression or boost your creativity in making love! I found this book to be one of the best around for non-medicinal methods of relaxation and also alertness. Ms. Wall's book, "Setting The Mood With Aromatherapy" was fantastic as well and very worth the read. No good home library should be without either of these books! A+++!

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing, February 19, 2005
This review is from: The Scented Veil: Using Scent to Awaken the Soul (Paperback)
My disappointment in this book was so strong, it prompted me to write this review.

The first four pages of the book sound very promising . . . my interest was peaked on page 5, when the authress stated "it suddenly dawned on me that, when I used scent, and especially certain types of scent, I got results. BIG results." I expected her to elaborate on her experiences, maybe give some specific examples. Although Wall makes several statements like this throughout the book . . . that's as far as she goes.

The author does give examples of the experiences of others, but does not relate the experience to the use of scent. Also, the author relies heavily on quoted material from Edgar Cayce. If I wanted to read so many quotes from Cayce, I would read a book by or about Edgar Cayce himself.

I gave the book one star because Wall does provide a list of scents to be used in connection with meditation, healing, etc., but I would have felt better about spending the money if the author had expounded upon her own experience. I felt the book was, in essence, just a collection of summaries of other material.
