Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description

Sceptre Technology's X7G Komodo IV is a 17-inch TFT multimedia LCD whose affordability, space-saving design, and wall-mount capabilities lend it to both style- and budget-conscious offices. You'll enjoy bright, deep colors and clear text produced by its high brightness (250 nits maximum) and high contrast ratio (400:1), while its 25 ms response time (15 ms rising, 10 ms falling) and 0.264 mm dot pitch deliver smooth still and moving images.

The monitor's full, 17-inch viewable screen displays a native resolution of 1,280 x 1,024 for outstanding image detail. LCD monitors employ two sheets of polarizing material with a liquid crystal solution between them. An electric current passed through the liquid causes the crystals to align so that light cannot pass through. Each crystal, therefore, is like a shutter, either allowing light to pass or blocking that light. This is a thin-film-transistor LCD, a type of flat-panel display in which each pixel is controlled by one to four transistors, ensuring the best resolution of all flat-panel techniques.

The X7G draws up to 33 percent less power than a traditional CRT monitor of the same size. Planning to take it overseas? No problem—the monitor offers a built-in power adapter that lets it accept inputs from AC 100 to 240V, 50/60 Hz. The screen is also flicker-free and emits almost no radiation. A Kensington security port can be used to install an optional anti-theft cable. The monitor is PC and Mac compatible, although Mac users must be connected either to a Power Macintosh using an IBM VGA card or to a Mac that uses a separate "sync on video" sync signal output. This model is backed by a one-year warranty on parts and labor.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Choice, May 30, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Sceptre X7G-Komodo IV 17" Flat-Panel LCD Monitor (Black) (Personal Computers)
Like most LCD displays, this one offers excellent picture quality although the attached speakers leave something to be desired. Unlike some other Sceptre displays, this one seems to handle resolutions other than the native one (1280x1024) well, and in my opinion does so better than comparable 17" dell flat panels that I have used. Picture quality itself is great (although is not as good as an Apple Cinema Display), and it has a large viewing angle. The warrenty is one year from date of purchase if the registration is sent in (one year from date of manufacture if not), but my monitor has performed well and I have not had to contact their technical support. Taken with the price ($400), this monitor is definitely worth the money. Only limitation to note is that this monitor accepts only analog input (no DVI), but the analog input seems to perform very well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good after 2 others, August 19, 2004

This review is from: Sceptre X7G-Komodo IV 17" Flat-Panel LCD Monitor (Black) (Personal Computers)
This is a GREAT monitor. Only problem was that it took 3 monitors for me to say that. The first 2 Sceptre X7G-Komodo IVs I received both had bad pixels. Even with the bad pixels, I really liked the construction and layout of the monitor. The good thing was that Amazon stuck by me the whole way. When I wrote them about the bad pixels on the first monitor, they ordered a new one before I even asked them to (and sent it 2-day delivery @ no charge). And when I had the same problem with the second one, a very nice Customer Service rep helped me get my 3rd one (overnight shipping @ no charge). The 3rd monitor is perfect and I'm really glad I have it even with the hassles I endured to get it. Amazon even paid for the return shipping on my 2 bad monitors.

So, 5 stars for this 3rd monitor and a BIG 5 STARS for AMAZON and their amazing customer service.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Value, July 16, 2004

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Sceptre X7G-Komodo IV 17" Flat-Panel LCD Monitor (Black) (Personal Computers)
I bought this monitor a few days ago (because of the price). Having recently spent over a year unemployed and dreaming about an LCD monitor, this is like a dream come true. The color is bright and vivid, the case is stylish (and small, so that I can one day do dual-head without having a large gap), the viewing angle is good, and the response time is fine for watching DVDs (I saw no ghosting whatsoever). There's not a single dead pixel on it, and it's made programming a real pleasure.

The OSD (On Screen Display) controls could be a little better, but they weren't *hard* to use and you only really use them once when you plug the monitor in anyway.

I haven't tried the speakers out yet, but I already have a $50 set of speakers (w/ subwoofer) anyhow so I don't really see the point in in-monitor speakers.

This monitor is a great value, and it's logo is a water monitor (Varanus salvator). How could you go wrong?!?
