I'd swear I reviewed this 4-CD monument a couple of years ago, but I can't find that review and I've had a devil of a time just finding this product page. Amazon does an unbearably sloppy job of listing CDs of classical music, and alas, fine performances get lost, customers get deprived, etc.
Cappella Augustana has now recorded four box sets of its contemplated Complete Schütz Editon on Brilliant Classics. The performances are uniformly gorgeous, in almost every case the best interpretation of Schütz's work available on any label, by any ensemble. Volume 1: Symphoniae Sacrae I & II / Weihnachtshistorie (5 CDs) Volume 2: Cantiones sacrae / Kleine geisltliche Coberte 1 / Madrigali (5 CDs) Volume 3:Resurrection History / Schütz's three Passion Dialogues: Matthäus, Lukas, Johannes (4 CDs) Volume 4: Kleine geistliche Concerte II / Musikalische Exequien / Geistliche Chor-Music (5 CDs) Good luck finding them. BUY THEM ALL! You won't regret it. (And no, I don't get a commission.) |
