Product Description

Color: Silver

The lock mechanism attaches to your strap. You must use the Schaller strap button included. Pull the knob on the front of the lock and a plunger moves allowing the lock to slide around the Schaller button. Release the knob, the plunger springs back and into the center cavity of the Schaller button. Your strap ain't going nowhere now!

Strap Lock Dunlop vs. Schaller November 23, 2008
Color Name:Silver
This review is actually a review for two, or rather two and half, products the Dunlop and Schaller strap locks. Dunlop having the original and dual design locks.

I have both types on my guitars.

First the Dunlop: (all finish types)
Installation was simple, screw was replaced with the one included in the package. I had to drill one of my guitars to enlarge the hole, easy. The finish of the lock was O.K. the black suffered the most with some dings and scratches, depending on the shipping and how long the locks were packed the finishing flaws will vary. I noticed it the most on black.

They feel secure and lock well in place; I still feel they are a bit far from the guitar body as compared to the Schallers. I would recommend the dual design as opposed to the original.

One big negative is the strap installment; your life could turn into hell depending on the strap ends thickness. And the lock is just not designed to be removed form the strap easily. If you wish to change, wash or replace the strap in the future it is very hard and you could damage the locking mechanism (a metal ring, open locking C washer).

Second the Schaller: (chrome/nickel)
Installation was simple also, straight on. Finish is great; however, metal washer for the strap ends could get damaged depending on what type of tool you use to install the locks on the strap. Use a flat small wrench available in hard ware stores (was not included in the package) I bought them from a local store.

They fell very secure and are snug to your guitar body resulting in less strain on the lock ends.

Installing the locks on the strap is a breeze, just tightening the nut with a washer over the strap and you're done. Changing the strap, no problems, easily loosen the nut and replace.

The only negative is that you could mar the teeth of you over tighten.

Both are great, however I recommend the Schaller.

Sorry for the long review.

I put these on my telecaster after breaking a toe because my strap came loose (I know, I know). I've worked in a guitar shop and have used multiple straplock products and these are by far the best quality that I have seen.

The guy who rated these a 1 star didn't install them right which is why he had bad results. Not to badmouth him though because I did the same thing when I first bought them.

In a nutshell - and really the only complaint I have about these straplocks - two of the biggest electric guitar manufacturers (Gibson & Fender) among others use stock strap button screws that are slightly larger than the ones provided by Schaller. What this means is that the pre-drilled holes in most guitars are just slightly too big to fully secure these straplocks in place. They are only off by a fraction of a cm so it can be decieving.. hence the bad results.

You have two options to remedy this problem, one is easy and the other is a pain. 1) Fill the hole with broken wooden tooth picks and then screw the schaller screw into place. This sounds like a hillbilly fix but it works well. Your only other option (2) is to bore out a larger holes in your guitar and glue in solid pieces of wood so you can start from scratch... but I really wouldn't recommend this unless the first solution didn't work for some reason and you really know what you are doing (if you do it wrong you are going to crack the body of your guitar).

Once you've installed these things correctly though you are basically free and clear to jump around all you want without worrying about whether your guitar is going to go flying! Good Luck!

The way to go! January 28, 2009
Color Name:Black
These are a must have for any guitar! If you want to be able to stand, play, and move around without having to worry about the strap coming off, then these are your calling. Simply unscrew the stock strap bolts, and screw these in, and viola! You're good to go! You may have to tighten the nuts once in a while, but overall, very reliable. A cheap, but essential investment to protect your guitar.
