NOT a kiddie book. Too intense to be considered a children's book, and a little difficult for kids, but I still highly recommend it, for adults and children alike. Lad was a real dog and so were Terhune's others; Wolf, Bruce, Gray Dawn and so on, so the stories are real. There is even a site, "Sunnybank Collies" where you can get to know each dog, and see their pictures too.
