Good supplement, a poor primary text,
By Charles Ashbacher (Marion, Iowa United States) - See all my reviews (TOP 500 REVIEWER) (VINE VOICE) (HALL OF FAME REVIEWER)
This review is from: Schaum's Easy Outline of Logic, Revised Edition (Schaum's Easy Outlines) (Paperback)
This book is an excellent supplementary study aid for students in philosophy, logic programming and discrete mathematics. Formal logic with rigid rules of argument is something that most people are unaccustomed to until they experience it in a college course. Students often find that they need a bit of extra help as they try to place their minds into a more rigid reasoning environment.
The explanations are crisp and easy to follow; tables and graphs are used when needed to further emphasize the points that are being made. If you find that you or your students need some help with the fundamentals of logic, this is an excellent place to turn. Published in Journal of Recreational Mathematics, reprinted with permission

Logic is not quite as intuitive as it seems. Lot of people believe they can think logically, but almost everyone can benefit of understanding some of the basics of logic. The complex logic involving many logical dependencies are certainly brain-teasers and this book explains them well.
My main issue with this book is that it has only few practice problems. It is designed to give the reader only a superficial understanding of logic. Most of the problems given were very easy and not very educational. I wish the book had provided numerous problems. But I am probably asking too much from a low-priced paperback. I can't say I enjoyed reading this book. After all, pure logic isn't that fun (at least to me). Nonetheless, the concepts written in this book are very valuable and can help you think more logically. And what is the value of that? Quite high. Complex logic is dealt towards end of the book that might be helpful to those who are taking the LSAT and GMAT. But I would look at closely at a more comprehensive materials for logic problems.

The book IS an outline, and so would not be a choice for primary text in a class. An educator would find the book useful for lecture.
