2.0 out of 5 stars Get Schaum's COLLEGE Chemistry instead, June 23, 2007
This review is from: Schaum's Outline of Beginning Chemistry, 3rd ed (Schaum's Outline Series) (Paperback)
I bought this and the Schaum's "College Chemistry" to get my HS son up to speed for his HS Honors Chemistry course. (I had several years of chem in college.) I found this one much too simplistic to the point of being confusing in that they leave out a lot. On the other hand, the Schaum's "College Chemistry" is just perfect. The worked examples in THAT book are clear and the text is fairly comprehensive. In THAT book there are lots of extra examples to work on.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for regular high-school chemistry learning, November 30, 2009

This review is from: Schaum's Outline of Beginning Chemistry, 3rd ed (Schaum's Outline Series) (Paperback)
It contains hundreds of examples and exercises and covers all the basic stuff in high school chemistry.

If you are going to take the AP Chemistry exam, you can combine this book with the Princeton Review AP Chemistry book.

If you are already in college, you can buy Schaum's College Chemistry Ninth Edition instead.

5.0 out of 5 stars Schaum's 'Beginning Chemistry' - Value Through the Decades, June 5, 2009
This review is from: Schaum's Outline of Beginning Chemistry, 3rd ed (Schaum's Outline Series) (Paperback)
During 1963-4 I took Chemistry I during my 11th grade year. My teacher demanded that all of us purchase a Schaum's Outline Series for Chemistry, a CRC rubber handbook and a slide rule. All three items played a vital role that year. Schaum's publications continued to play an important role in my life through my HS senior year (Chem-II), through undergraduate school (chemical engineering) and through graduate school (chemistry). Without Schaum's I don't think that I would have successfully completed undergraduate school.
During 2000 and 2001 I purchased several Schaum's volumes to help one of my children through chemistry, physics and calculus. Now, during 2009 I purchased "Beginning Chemistry" as a gift for a grandchild of mine who I was asked to tutor. I can only say that the clarity, scope and breadth of the current Schaum's are even better than they once were.
