5.0 out of 5 stars Great Study Guide December 14, 1999
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I used this book while pursuing my B.S. in Biochemistry and it is the best study guide I ever used. It covers all of the primary topics in undergraduate biochemistry and gives pertinent examples without extraneous information. I highly recommend it as a study aid, especially for standardized tests.

For undergraduate courses related to biochemistry, Schaum's Outline of Biochemistry is a vital course supply material for quizzes, midterms and also finals. The book contains a wide range of topics including amino acids and proteins, and hundreds of examples at the end of every chapter.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great supplement September 27, 2011
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I am a graduate student currently taking the first semester course of a two-semester run of biochemistry. If you are going to take a biochem course, GET THIS OUTLINE. Textbooks are pretty cumbersome, and after reading a given text chapter, it's nice to have a supplement like this to refer to for clarification. It also provides lots of sample problems/questions, all of which will lead to greater understanding of the material that you're learning. I highly recommend this outline.

5.0 out of 5 stars It's a Book April 13, 2014
By Jeffrey
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I love these outlines. If you have a tendency to teach yourself more than be taught, and fall asleep trudging through random anecdotes designed to humanize and apply unnecessary practicality to the subjects you are studying, as I do, these books offer a cut and dry alternative. Perhaps not the best choice for a beginner to a particular course of study (especially if utilized outside the classroom setting), these guides provide a concise reference for brushing up or revisiting a previous undertaking without all of the trimmings meant to instill a sense of welcoming to unfamiliar territory.

Best of luck.

4.0 out of 5 stars good tool for subject GRE preparation April 22, 2014
By dee doo
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I bought some of these Schaum's books as a study tool for the biochemistry subject GRE. While the outlines are useful in their broad coverage of topics, and helpful to organize the large body of information one needs to study for these tests, they do not provide in-depth coverage of any topics. These books are *not a substitute* for a proper textbook. That being said, if you are looking for a not-to-overwhelming overview to organize your studying, the Schaum's outlines are an excellent guide.

3.0 out of 5 stars Too textbook like. October 22, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Too textbook like. Too much text. I don't see how you can call something a review at 500 pages. None of the sample problems were multiple choice. Many of them were more illustrative of what the text was talking about and less for testing your knowledge.
