I found this book to be a great supplement for my review of Math. Just the way it is presented makes it a joy to review. Straight and to the point. I plan on using the others in this line of books to hopefully get up to pre-calc for college.

However, I gave it four stars because of the unbelievably amount of errors found within. Where was the proof reader before publishing? Im at chapter 6 and have found approx 30+ errors. Ive lost count, something like one every other page or so.

I said above that I value these books, the errors have got to stop... if and when one reaches a level that he/she is not sure what it is they're doing, how will they know the right answer? They won't and will be misled, unfortunately.

To sum up, I definately approve of Schaums methods of supplementing mathematics but there needs to be some higher level of accuracy. Luckily, they are cheap and one would be wise to purchase additional material as well.

My son needs some real education in math (he is 7.5 years old in second grade). I use this book to set the curriculum and scope of teaching him math. This book serves as the basis to learn algebra. So far he loves it and understands math is not all about just addition/subtraction/multiplication and division.

Schaum's Review of Elementary Mahematics,Second Edition, by Barnett Rich and revised by Philip Schmidt is a survey of pre-college mathematics and provides assistance well beyond the regular book in elementary mathematics.

Each rule, formula and principle is given in simple language and immediately applied to solved problems
Each procedure is developed step by step, each step applied to problems.
Each set of solved problems illustrates a rule.

2 500 fully solved problems.

It even introduces the reader to Trigonometry(Law of Pythagoras).
The calculator is introduced throughout. A 5-page index concludes the book.

Let me draw the attention to the completeness of the following chapters :chap.2 Fundamentals of Arithmetic, chap.8 Fundamentals of Algebra on Equations and Formulas,chap.10 Fundamentals of Geometry.

5/13: One of the very first math books I started with for my self-study was Schaum's Outlines: Review of Elementary Mathematics. Pedagogically, it is a very good book that effortlessly guides the reader throughout the basics of mathematics. There is nothing dry in the language. It simply explains and explains as much of details as possible how and why one does the procedure for a certain type of problems. Schaum's Outlines: Review of Elementary Mathematics will address the terminology from ground up. Every problem there is in the book, the solutions are provided, and half of them are fully worked out before the supplementary problems. All in all, I highly recommend Schaum's Outlines: Review of Elementary Mathematics as the very first mathematics book and follow it up with Schaum's Outline of Elementary Algebra, 3ed (Schaum's Outline Series).

I bought this book for one of my adult students. She is from a country in eastern Africa that does not emphasize women's education. Once I had her started with chapter 1, she was able to understand how to complete the rest of the book on her own.
