An excellent volume, both for practical learning and for ref,
This review is from: Schaum's Outline of German Grammar (Paperback)
Nothing impresses native German-speakers more than hearing a foreigner speaking their language in a technically correct manner, and this Schaum guide is the quickest way to get your grammar up to scratch. Grammar is undoubtedly the most difficult aspect of the German language, but get it down pat and suddenly everything else about the language will seem much easier. I bought Schaum whilst on exchange in Switzerland four years ago, found it to be indispensable, and still use it now almost every day. Of course mastering grammar takes a lot of rote-learning - there's no getting around 'Hans does this, Hans does that'-style repetition. But Schaum deserves praise for its sensible A4 format, and a manner which is matter-of-fact without being boring. I highly recommended it for exchange students and others working in German-speaking countries: for me it meant the difference between being a somewhat hesitant tourist and being a well-integrated, confident traveller.

a good grammar supplement,
By wendybird "Wendy" (Omaha) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Schaum's Outline of German Grammar (Paperback)
This book is great for using outside the classroom on your own to repeat and (hopefully!) remember all those pesky little German grammar rules that are so hard to simply memorize. It is self-explanatory and starts at a fairly simple level, ramping up gradually as it progresses. I would recommend writing out the excercises in a notebook so you can redo/review excercises that give you trouble again and again.

Lots of drill,
By A Customer
This review is from: Schaum's Outline of German Grammar (Paperback)
Alas, drill and repetiton are part of learning a language. This book gives you a LOT. It suffers from a lack of more complex exercises with answers that explain the issues involved, but for a blunt "practice practice" approach its pretty good,The explanations of the rules of grammar are clear.

Lots of Examples,
By Clara T. (Singapore) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Schaum's Outline of German Grammar (Paperback)
There are countless examples and exercises to imprint the grammar rules into your mind. To benefit from it, you might have to keep practicing, and be very self-disciplined. Totally worth its price. Good for self-study.

Excellent learning tool for German,
By A Customer
This review is from: Schaum's Outline of German Grammar (Paperback)
I found this an outstanding book for learning German. The book is broken into "chunks"; e.g., one chapter on noun gender, another on the various cases, yet another on prepositions, etc. That helps me to stay focused on the material, and also to retain it. I highly recommend this book for the beginner...but advanced students might find it useful as a review tool.

Excellent,

This review is from: Schaum's Outline of German Grammar (Paperback)
An excellent guide and the best medium length grammar book I have come accross. The well thought out material is presented in a generous A4 format (which at least for grammar books, I feel is superior to the much more common pocket size), with a very extensive contents summary and plenty of excercises. This book lends itself to reading from cover to cover as well as serving as a good reference ( admittedly not nearly as extensive as Hammer, but this level of detail would only be confusing to most non-advanced learners anyway). I cant imagine that anyone would regret paying the modest price for this very helpful book.

Excelent Guide...Covers all aspects!,
This review is from: Schaum's Outline of German Grammar (Paperback)
As many people have already stated, German Grammar is not easy to learn. There are many aspects of it that need to be learned as well as many exceptions...
Luckily, this book covers all the rules and exceptions accompanied with countless examples... Everything from (Dative,Accusativ,Nominativ,Genitiv) is here, as well as pronouns, adjectives, verbes, preposition, word order and more... The only thing I noticed is that there are a couple of mistakes in this book...However, since there are thousands of examples I think 1 or 2 mistakes won't confuse anybody...Even some of the German people I know get the grammar mixed up sometimes, so dont worry!

Good Supplement,

You won't be fluent after working through this book, but it is a good supplement to a college course, or a vocab book. I found the exercises and explanations to be very clear and concise. Worth the 15$.
