4.0 out of 5 stars First, what? and second, no.
The above audio tracks are from some band but not H.U.G. Go the metropolis label site to hear a few actual clips from the new CD until they get with it here. Right track names but wrong audio. What is currently up there is pure... well it's pretty bad and someone should be embarrassed. Hopefully they'll have fixed this by the time people are reading this "review" and it...

It's actually a good CD that gives Uber Alles a run for its money. It's electro-metal that'll make hyperactive teens drive fast and break things. IMO, you should buy two!

5.0 out of 5 stars BEST SHEISSE I'VE HEARD IN YEARS!, November 29, 2004
This review is from: Scheissmessiah! (Audio CD)
This CD is awesome from beginning to end! I've been a fan since ausgeflippt in the late 90's and HuG has been steadily getting better and better! Scheissmessiah is clearly their heaviest offering to date and once again they have delivered a unique and hilariously ironic masterpiece in an otherwise mundane genre that to often takes itself way too seriously! This one is like a hellish nightmare set to handel's messiah with all kinds of kaiser era german inuendo. personal favs are disko fire scheissmessiah , kaiser von shizer, and 10th circle (no idea what language this one is). brutal and just in time for christmas! AWESOME!

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best albums of the year, October 23, 2004

This review is from: Scheissmessiah! (Audio CD)
I haven't been a fan of Hanzel und Gretyl for very long. It has been a year since I received my first HuG "Uber Alles" cd courtesy of Outburn magazine (for subscribing to the magazine). I also had heard a couple of tracks previously thanks to a friend of mine who had burned for me a few songs of theirs on cd, but it wasn't until "Uber Alles" that really made me a HuG. I recently saw the band perform live (w/Ministry, Dope, and My Life With the Thrill Kill Kult). During the concert, I bought their new cd "Scheissmessiah" which they were selling prior to the official record release. I bought it after seeing the band perform a few songs from the cd live. Here on "Scheissmessiah", the band explores the subject matter of heaven and hell hence some of the song titles like "Sheissway to Hell" and "Purity". "Scheissmessiah" totally blows "Uber Alles" away (and I love "Uber Alles". Vas Kallas is more ferocious than ever. The rapid fire drumming of Jon Osterman and heavy bass licks by former Drain STH bassist Anna K. provided the band a meaty backbone and gave the band an even more aggressive sound than what I have heard before. I love all the songs on this cd but the standout tracks for me has to be the catchy "Disko Fire Scheiss Messiah", "Hellalujah", and "Burning Bush". Those songs are just as catchy and just as aggressive as "SS Deathstar Supergalatic" (from "Uber Alles"). "Hallelujah" is one of my favorite songs on the cd withe fusion of opera and industrial music which makes for an explosive combination. If you don't like the current commander in chief, you will love "Burning Bush". It is an obvious direct attack on our current commander in thief, er, chief. Very catchy. On this song, Loopy actually takes front and center on the vocals. Most of the songs are not sung in English but I pretty much could tell what the songs were about. All the songs are great. I was not disappointed. Hanzel und Gretyl is the best band I have heard that combines metal and industrial music. Unlike a lot of bands in their genre, Hanzel und Gretyl has a dry sense of humor. On their last album, they had a fascist Germany theme (which people totally blew out of proprtion). On "Scheissmessiah", it is about heaven and purgatory.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sounds better in German (TM), August 4, 2005

This review is from: Scheissmessiah! (Audio CD)
The title of Hanzel und Gretyl's latest album, "Scheissmessiah," translates to "S*** Messiah." Of course, that sounds better in German - and that could be HUG's motto: "Sounds better in German (TM)." A New York-based duo with a penchant for Teutonic lyrics, HUG bring a sorely-needed sense of humor to industrial music. While "Scheissmessiah" is full of headbanging riffs a la KMFDM or Ministry, classical music samples and general cheekiness abound, culminating in an awesomely cheesy cover of Handel's "Messiah." If all those German lyrics (and the random song in Greek) throw you, check out HUG's website (www.hanzelundgretyl.com) for translations. There's something immensely satisfying about a song with "F*** you with fire" as a chorus.

If you love Remmstein you'll love Hanzel und Gretyl.

Hanzel und Gretyl is a great band which hooked me up with their Uber Alles album. SCHEISSMESSAIAH is a wonderful album. Too bad the band is not known in the USA very well or alsewhere.

5.0 out of 5 stars FUKKEN UBER!, November 14, 2006
By
This review is from: Scheissmessiah! (Audio CD)
If there was ever a band I was excited about because no one has heard of them, this is it! THIS is the band people need to start listening to because they just plain rock! I felt the same way about Mastodon in 2004, so that should tell you something right there! As an added bit of trivia, one of the former members of the Cycle Sluts from Hell, Venus Penis Crusher, aka Betty Kallas, is now Vas Kallas, the co-founder of the band. One listen to this album should shut down any rumors that the Sluts couldn't write a song, let alone play their instruments. But that's another day and another review.

Today, we are going to review Scheissmessiah!, which was released in 2004. Opening the album is a nice mellow track called "Lust". It mixes soothing, almost new-age sounds with a speech from some Evangelical preacher going on about hell. This, of course, is followed by "Fikk Dikk Mit Fire". This song barrels like a locomotive with pounding guitars, intense drums, and a chorus with a hook that is impossible to find anywhere else in Industrial Metal! Vas Kallas, the female singer, tears away at the track with a sample of a croud chanting behind her. It all reaches to a fantastic track, and a must-have for anyone who likes metal.

Taking a sample from "Ride of the Valkyries", "Kaiser Von Shizer" shoes what the rest of the album is; incredibly heavy industrial metal mixed in with a good sense of humor and some intense moments! The album isn't a non-stop serious-fit, nor is it a comedy disc. It's more the former than the latter, and it works to great dynamic appeal. The guitar work on this album is great and intense. The album pushes toward thrash and speed metal at times, otherwise sticking to indutrial stylings. The samples and effects are used to the same effect as the most skilled White Zombie tune. A track like "Burning Bush" is great for highlighting the humor of the band, specifically the samples of both a woman moaning and some rapper going "1,2,2,2,2,23!" On the opposite end, "Scheissway to Hell" is an example of dynamic songwriting by the band, showing a great ability of songwriting as well.

As for another headbanger, "And We Shall Purify" is definetly up there! As much as the refrence is a pain to mention, yes, the band is similar to KMFDM in it's approach, but they take it to a level they can't, and that's just plain Fukken Uber Fun!

It's hard to nail down certain songs that stand out, and that isn't necessarily a bad thing. It's an album you put on and you can enjoy it. It's not a bloated 72-minute epic, it isn't something that wallows in itself trying to find itself. It's an album that is going to make you laugh with Nazi imagey, great German lyrics, and an entertainment level that's incredibly high. Your not going to get bored and your going to agree when I say it's a great album.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great album but not Uber, October 25, 2005
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Scheissmessiah! (Audio CD)
This is classic industrial with goth-metal mixed in, a tint of evil vs. good if you will. The album is a sort of follow up to their popular Uber Alles CD. While not as good as that album this album still packs a punch with a few random songs in German and Greek. The greek song (10th circle) oozes with satanic-like flavor. If you are poor weak soul, do not buy the album but all kidding aside if you liked the Uber album you will appreciate this album for continuing the monsterous overtones. Also, check them out live, both women and the dudes in the band really put on a good show.

Not quite "uber alles" but pretty close......Vas is as upfront and brutal with her lyrical approach as before...but the music seems slightly more campy this time....but that's not a bad thing neccessarily....the music is still uber catchy and grabs you pretty much the whole way through....a good industrial metal album none the less....best songs are Kaiser Von Shizer, Burning Bush, and We Shall Purify....good cd won't dissapoint fans of metal or of industrial music.

2.0 out of 5 stars What happened?!?!, October 25, 2005
This review is from: Scheissmessiah! (Audio CD)
I will be brief with this. Everything that made HuG what they were, is lacking on this album. There is very little sampling on this album compared to past efforts from Hug and this album has a much more "raw" feel to it. They seem to be moving in a different direction as a band, that direction leads to redundant metal mediocrity.
