Bean bag and Starfish safe!,

This review is from: Schick Quattro Titanium Trimmer (Health and Beauty)
Ok, I primarily use this for the razor end of it for my daily shaving. The Quattro blades are awesome... I've tried everything and these are about the only ones I don't end up with a face full of razorbumps after each shave (I have really sensitive face skin). Now.. here is the bonus and the other part of why I purchased this. The clippers are good for shaving/maintaining the unmentionables. Yea.. there.. I've said it.. TMI, but somebody had to say it. Those that are dedicated for pubic grooming easily go for close to a hundred bucks.. this seems to do the job fine for a fraction of the cost. Also, visitors don't ask what its for when they see it.

I am surprised at how high quality this trimmer is. It is thick metal and the grip is very broad and sturdy. I have bought trimmers in the $30 range that aren't as nice as this. The trimmer is about 3/4 of an inch wide, making it perfect for right under the nose and for keeping the edges of my beard straight. The motor was surprisingly powerful considering it runs on an AAA battery. One cool feature is that you can either click the power button completely on for large areas, or you can trim/pause/trim/pause very easily just by adjusting the pressure on the button. That makes it more difficult to make a mistake if you are working on intricate detail or lines. For the price, you can buy one for travel or replace it if you break it somehow. I would totally buy this again. This is honestly the most pleasant surprise I've ever received out of an Amazon purchase. I wasn't expecting much but this is such a good value for the money. Oh, and it has a razor, too.

I use both a Gilette Fusion and regular Schick Quattro, and got the Schick Trimmer for free during a store promo. I think the shave is fine, and the trimmer is surprisingly good quality. The design is also one of the coolest & most innovative things I've seen in a while. I don't use a trimmer regularly, but happened to need it lately and it works just as well as more expensive trimmers I've used, and they are not waterproof.

Trimmer worth it by itself,

The aim I believe of this shaver, was that you could do some easy trimming here and there, but also to help you while you shave. It's recommended that you cut down your hair as close as you can go, in order not to catch or dull your razor blades. Having the unit combine both of these makes life easier on you, especially if you're traveling and don't want to carry all your tools around with you to make you look decent. The trimmer part works great for me- it cuts through hair very easily, and provides the same quality cut now than it did over six months ago. I have only replaced the battery once during that time, and have barely washed the trimmer- just rinsing it out each time I use it. No rust issues, this thing is completely safe for water. The razor I actually haven't used, but by the price it looks like it would be a very effective shaver. I use an electric Norelco, so I haven't bothered using it, but nonetheless, if you're in need of something to do a quick trim, I think this is really worth the money, especially if you go on trips often. (Also, I would like to note that the trimmer comes with a bit of a cap to protect it from falls, and also act as a bit of a guard for while you're shaving. Only your creativity can limit you here!)

Decent trimmer,

The trimmer is decent, and gets the job done. HOWEVER, there is one big problem: you have to continuously hold the button in order for the trimmer to stay on, which is why I gave it four stars.

Good Trimmer, Bad Razor,

Product arrived safely packed and on the proposed date. The reason I bought this razor/trimmer was because I was planing on do a little man-scaping. So as a trimmer, I want to say it does a fine job although you really gotta be careful using it. A tip when "mowing the lawn" make sure you are using it in the right position and be very careful around the family jewels or you might get nicked (Tough lesson to learn). Now as a razor, I didn't like it, the blades are to close to each other causing them not to grab as much hair as it should (facial area). As a result, you have to give multiple passes to get a real close shave. In this department I believe Gillette still has a lesson or two to teach schick. So... Love the trimmer, Hate the razor. Happy trimming!

Major battery hog,
By
This review is from: Schick Quattro Titanium Trimmer (Health and Beauty)
Here I am writing a semi-negative review... while buying another one. In general, the product does what I bought it for: using the beard trimmer to give myself stubble, rather than a clean shave. For that, I haven't found anything better. But one thing you should know is that this trimmer is a major battery hog. It takes one AAA battery at a time, but I only get 3-5 good shaves from each battery. Worse, it doesn't just stop when the battery is too low -- it just slows down. And when it goes more slowly, it's more likely to tug on whiskers instead of cutting them. Ouch. I eventually bought a 20-pack of AAA's and put them in my medicine cabinet. Also, the trimmer didn't last long before crapping out. I bought it about 2 years ago, and I've been using it 2-3 times a week. Now it hardly works anymore, running through batteries at about two shaves per battery -- and on that second shave, it's mighty slow. And yet I'm buying a new one, because at the end of the day it does what I want, and it only costs $10.

A perfect fit. I'm a 32 solid and they're not too tight around the legs, not cheaply made, drawstrings help as the front is just loose enough for comfort, I'll be buying a second pair to swap in and out.

Advantages over the Gillette Styler,
By Islander (Seattle, Wa USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Schick Quattro Titanium Trimmer (Health and Beauty)
I went to the store today to pick up a second Gillette Styler for travel. I love the one I recently started using at home and knew it would be better than hauling bag with all my Wall trimmer stuff. I saw the Schick and decided to try it - at about half the price, it was worth a gamble. I was pleasantly surprised. Here are some observations:Advantages: * Build quality is good, maybe a bit lower than the Gillette * Good feel in hand, equivalent to Gillette * The trimmer is about 2/3 as wide as the Gillette -- this is a major advantage for precise trimming of mustaches * The trimmer blades protrude more, making it easier to trim a mustache * One adjustable beard guide instead of three separate fixed guides for the Gillette. Terrific for travel. * Unlike the Gillette, the beard guide protects the blade during travel. * Slightly shorter than the Gillette when using the blade, making it more comfortable to shave with. * I love the titanium blades -- equivalent to the Gillette blades (for me) * No separate blade attachment adapter Disadvantages: * The motor seems to run a rougher than the Gillette. I bet it will have a shorter life. * The shaver blade doesn't vibrate -- not a big deal, but vibration may help for very slow outlining of a beard * The trimmer wasn't designed by Braun Either way, you can't loose, but this Schick should make a better travel groomer.

Love this thing for the trimmer... not a fan of the razor,
By

Love this thing for the trimmer. It is waterproof and extremely effective in the shower. I trim my beard several times a week now without leaving hairs all over our bathroom sink (a real plus). I'm a die hard Gillette razor fan, so offering the trimmer was the ONLY way I was going to buy a Quattro (short of getting a free one).I have to say that the razor part is underwhelming. I am not a fan of the vertical "glide wires" or whatever they are called. My beard isn't that tough, but they immediately clog up for me and take a lot of rinsing in the shower to clean out. The Mach 3 and Fusion don't get nearly as clogged up for me. So, this trimmer sits in my shower for my beard trimming duties, but I use the razor only in a jam. Kudos to Schick for coming up with a truly different product (not just more blades or a different strip). The trimmer in the shower is enough of an innovation for me to give it 5 stars despite the crappy razor. |
