Color: Hydro Silk RazorVine Customer Review of Free Product( What's this? )
I recently began hunting for a new razor. I wanted to replace an old Gillette Venus Original Razor, 1 Razor 2 Cartridges, 1-count Package. I tried a new Gillette Venus, the Schick Intuition Moisture Razors, Cucumber Melon - 1 ea, and in an attempt to see if men had it any better, the Schick Quattro men's razor.

On my hunt I have been looking for a razor that meets the following criteria-
-Removes hair easily- I.e. One pass and it's gone. No shaving the same area two or three times.

-Non-irritating- I.e. Doesn't cause bumps or other skin irritation. A moisture additive that works would be a plus.

-Mobility- I.e. Flexibility of the razor head to move around curves.

-Other pluses include long-lasting blades, low cost, and ease of razor head replacement.

The Gillette Venus and the Schick Quattro didn't provide a particularly close shave, and both irritated my skin, even with copious amounts of shaving gel. The Intuition didn't irritate my skin when I shaved normally, but it did such a poor job removing hair that I found myself pressing harder and harder, and I wound up irritating my skin that way. It was also very difficult to clean.

I tried the Schick Hydro Silk on a whim, and I'm very glad I did. Although not a perfect razor, it is by far the best of the four. It provides a very close, very smooth shave, without having to press hard or shave the same area twice. The head moves easily around curves, and it didn't irritate my skin at all, (I did use shaving gel). Last but far from least, it was easy to clean.

The Hydro Silk comes with the razor handle and head, a replacement cartridge, and a suction cup storage device that allows you to hang it on the wall.

**Update- 9/17/12
An important note about the storage of the razor- The conditioning serum in the razor is located in the small oval marks that are visible on the head of the razor, both above and below the blades, running the length of the head.
While traveling I left the razor on the edge of a bathtub, in an area where water apparently pooled. When I picked up the razor the next day the serum had leaked out of the spots, leaving a sticky stort of gel on the head of the razor. Several of the spots have completely emptied, and there is a difference in the shave the razor now provides. Therefore it is important to store the razor in a dry location, or to use the provided storage mechanism, which will keep the head out of pooling water.
Despite this problem, after a month of use I would still highly recommend this razor.

**Update- 11/19/12
After three months of use, I'd recommend this razor even more highly than I did originally. If you are looking for the picture perfect closest-shave-ever, this is probably not the razor for you, but it gets closer *with no irritation* than anything else I've tried. The razor heads are relatively long lasting, and the razor itself hasn't developed any problems. It feels a bit odd to rave about a razor, but this is definitely my perfect razor and I'd highly recommend it.

I received this razor free to try through BzzAgent. I was pretty excited to receive my package in the mail and test out this new razor. I am a Venus user. I have probably used every razor known to man (even the ones used by men) but I always come crawling back to the Venus wondering why I ever strayed in the first place. It is the only razor I have ever found that didn't leave my legs looking like I just walked through a mile of thistle.

Then I met the Schick Hydro Silk Sensitive Razor. First I will say that the razor does do what it says. My legs ended up smooth. It did not irritate my skin at all. No red spots or scraps. No itching through out the day like some razors can cause. Very much like my beloved Venus. But that is where the similarities end. For starters, the water activated moisture strip, a big selling point for this product, became very slimy and slippery. It made the razor seem dull. It also has a short life span. My usual razor typically lasts a week. This razor was spent after shave two.

So while in the end my legs were smooth and irritant free, I think I will be sticking with my old trusty razor.

I got a random free sample of this from an online order last year. It worked SO much better than the the razor I was using before. (Schick Quattro For Women Trimstyle Razor & Bikini Trimmer). So I fell for their free sample and have been buying replacements ever since! The handle is really nice and the blade moves with your skin.

I have sensitive skin, and this razor gets very close without being irritating. If you use shaving cream it works like a charm! It also stays sharp for a while.I usually can keep the blade for a few months in the winter, but in the summer a month is pushing it for me. It is best to keep it upright and in a dry area. If you leave it sitting out in the shower or moist area the silk dots are activated and then a lot of it will come out at once. If this happens it doesn't ruin the razor, but it's not ideal. Instead of a lot of uses of slowly getting extra moisture, it will be used up in a use or two. After a few uses it looks like the extra moisture dots are all gone, but they really do keep working for a while! It just releases a small amount at a time.

The refills are expensive, but they do make a disposable version now that is much cheaper! I bought a pack of those and turns out it is the EXACT SAME head, only with a cheaper handle. I easily pulled it off of the disposable handle and fit perfectly on my more sturdy handle :)

I used a Gillette Venus for YEARS, but finally decided to try the Hydro Silk this past summer. I can confidently say that I do not miss my Venus one bit! I've never used a razor that plays well with my eczema, but this one absolutely does. It hydrates surprisingly well and to date, I've never received a knick or cut.

The Hydro Silk for women is a five blade razor with a strip that releases moisturizers as you shave. To activate the strip, hold the razor under water for a few seconds and then begin to shave. This is a truly smooth shave, no shower or shave gel needed. It glides across your skin leaving you with smooth moisturized skin. It felt like a close shave, but not as close as the men's razors that I tend to use. However, I prefer using this one for sensitive areas like under the arm. The razor comes with the suction cup holder for your shower that, of course, pops off and into your bathtub at 3 in the morning and scares the daylights out of you. I'm not sure if the serum ever runs out, I didn't see a recommendation on how long to use it before replacing it, but the package comes with one replacement head. If I can get 3 or 4 months usage out of the package, I would say it's worth the money.

I received this from Bzzagent to try and it is by far my favorite razor. I love the angle of the handle most. It's easy to grip and the head pivots well around knees and ankles. The shave I get is also very very close.

I was lucky enough to try this razor through BzzAgent and I am glad I did! Not only does it have a cool design but it leaves my sensitive skinned legs feeling soft, smooth, and silky while keeping them really hydrated! Have already bought another one to keep on hand and am planning on buying refills as well!

I received this razor as part of a Bzz Campaign and I absolutely love it. Its the smoothest, closest shave I've ever had. I have very sensitive skin and this is the only razor that doesn't give me bumps. Love it!

Sensitive skin here, checking in.

I switched over from the Venus Pro-Skin (which I've been using for the past year) because I was having issues with more cuts, razor burn, pimples on my legs, and random rashes (particularly behind my knees). Now, not all of this can necessarily be contributed to the switch, I'm sure; buuuut, I can say:

1. This is definitely a smoother--and closer--shave...without the cuts.
2. The lotioned strips are much better for my sensitive skin than the (seemingly frangranced) soap of the Venus as well--just in general, and I'm experiencing decidedly less razor burn.
3. The rash behind my knee has disappeared.

The only issue I have had is getting the razor attached. With the Venus, even if the head was taken out of the packaging it could be easily and safely attached without risk of cutting myself. Which the Schick, lacking the flared based where the razor attaches, I almost sliced my fingers to ribbons when I thoughtlessly took the new razor head out of the individual wrapper before attaching it. Easily avoided, though.
