Product Description

Asgard is a fully discrete, Class A, single-ended FET headphone amplifier with no overall feedback and a noninverting circuit topology. Its high-current design makes it uniquely suitable for low-impedance headphones. Now, if you're an engineer, the preceding paragraph probably means something to you. For everyone else, let's simplify it: Asgard will sound friggin tremendous on virtually any headphone you throw at it, from $39 cheapies to those $1400 monsters you've been wanting to try. Asgard will even drive them to ear-imploding levels, if that's what you're into. And Asgard will do this for years and years, with no maintenance or tube replacements. Asgard is covered by a limited warranty that covers parts and labor for five years. That's 5 years. Yes. FIVE. Compare that to the competition.

The amp is sturdy and feels very solid.
Mitch Haile
Sound quality-wise it was alright, wide soundstage, not deep, smooth but not totally laid back.
Sammy Larbey
I highly recommend this amplifier to anyone looking for a solid state amp.

I am using this amp with Sennheiser HD800s. Compared to other cheap headphone amps and my receiver's headphone port, this amp has amazing clarity. There's no extra noise in the headphones--no hiss, no buzz, just music. The sound is excellent and this amp has no trouble driving the HD800s at all.

At the time I write this, this is being sold by some third party who has marked up the price on Amazon. Go to Schiit's web site and make sure you're getting the best price.

The amp is sturdy and feels very solid. It looks great and it's very simple. The only negative at all is that it runs very very warm--which Schiit says is normal--but I think it's bordering on too warm. I'd rather see a bigger case, or more ventilation holes in exchange for a cooler amp. Even the volume knob can get uncomfortably warm to touch.

But at this price--about 25% of the price of other amps in its class--this amp is a tremendous value.

I use this with my HD 650s. The sound is pretty amazing. It doesn't distort at louder volumes. Product gets hot but apparently that is normal. You can tell the excellent build quality on the unit. I would definitely recommend this with an hd650

Beyond saying this thing is simply amazing for the price I don't even know what else to say. It just is.
Price no object and I still think it would be a contender although for all but a few in the world, price is a factor and the Asgard is a champ in that fight.
From high end in-ear units like Klipsch, Etymotic, ThinkSound (all pairs I own and tried) to the Hifiman HE-4's I bought this amp for this unit is just incredible. I think it could make just about any headphone you already love and make it better. Be sure to start on a low volume and go up with in-ear types! It can make the "magic smoke come out" as the company says on their website referring to the Lyr (a higher end amp from Schiit) when using headphones that don't actually require a lot of power to push.
Besides the great sound, great build quality, ridiculously good price for what you get... How could you not love a company that has an owners manual so funny you want to carry it around and show your friends?
And as their website says the unit does get hot. Not as hot as I thought it would, my laptop where the battery and fan are near each other feels hotter to me, but it does get really hot. And per the company this is normal. Just keep it in mind as you place it so it has ventilation and is not where it could harm anything else. Come to think of it my first generation AppleTV gets considerably hotter than this does.

I just received my Shit (Schiit) Ass guard (Asguard) headphone amplifier. I have driven headphones through many receivers, discrete and integrated amps back in the day from exotic to mainstay(I am 55 years old). It took 5 seconds if that to hear the difference from my current amps to just a cheap $249.00 box.I have not enjoyed music like this for years. There was an instant improvement in sound and texture. I was a disbeliever in dedicated headphone amps,I was WRONG. I ordered a HRT music streamer II DAC to see if that is hype or not. We will see. This little amp is well worth the price and more. My next search will be for a top headphone amp and better DAC if the Music Streamer II provides any improvement at all. If you want to go cheap before taking a deep plunge try this Schiit!

Update, The Music Streamer II is well worth the price.I have since purchased the Audio Engine D1 (low headphone output), Firestone Cute Beyound (better amp than the D1), tryed my friends Fiio's and Nuforce. I always come back to the Asgaurd, too bad it is not portable.

I got my Asgard about 8 or 9 months ago. IT sounds WONDERFUL! Thank God we still have the ability in the US To create great works....Beautiful outer case of solid aluminum....about 1/8th of an inch of aluminum with thinner metal for heat transfer. THis thing gets HOT!!!!. BUt sounds like a Great Little HEadphone amp that will blow your ears off and damage your hearing if you don't keep the knob under 1/2 power. STRONG AND CLEAR> Great amp. MADE IN THE USA!!!!!
