Tarot Suite - I used to have this on vynal (yeah it's that old! ) so I knew what this music was all about. Classic, quirky soft rock. I still enjoyed rocking out to the first track - it brings memories of the Triple M Angel smashing away on it's guitar.
The last song, 'Wings of an Eagle' was going to be in the movie sound track of "Watership Downs" - but was cut. It might have been really interesting to hear this song with Art Garfunkel's wonderful voice giving it flight like that classic song -"Bright Eyes". This album was teamed for sale with 'Schizophonia', which I hadn't heard before. I will admit that Schizophonia took the gloss off my experience a bit because so many of the tracks on it had a pre-developed feel/sound about them - a poor man's Tarot Suite. Mike Batt has some fantastic music but I don't think Schizophonia was his best work. I am still searching for "Hunting of the Snark" in which Mike Batt teams with a whole heap of other artists including Julian Lenon (Happy Birthday to his Dad- John - by the way - who would have been 70 years old today) on a musical take of the poem "Hunting of the Snark", with the Baker, Butcher, Beaver and Billard Marker. So maybe this album is a bit of a "Boojum" and having found it - I might just disappear........

I discovered Mike Batt back in the seventies while I worked for the international division of CBS Records in México City. We used to receive sample records (LPs in those days) from all over the world to evaluate the domestic market success possibilities. When I heard Schizophonia I was immediately fascinated, nevertheless the verdict was the Mexican market would not be suitable for the material.
I took home the LP and let me just mention that my children, the older was born in 1977, grew up listening to this record among many others. My older son now 34 asked me a few weeks ago for the record. Of course along time and with new CD technology, I had no idea of where the LP is even though it is properly kept among my more than 1,500 LP collection. I could hardly believe he remembered the music. Well he not only remembered but wanted it. Thus I lloked for the CD at Amazon and found it was re edited, so immediately ordered a copy. It is really hard to forget the work of Mike Batt, the strong Arabic influence and the symphonic arrangements combined with modern instruments and the wording are just great.
