Great Skill and Broad Range of Styles,

Schizophrenic is no exception to the extraordinary caliber of Oz's work. On this disc, Oz continues to present a high grade collection of tunes which showcase his awesome skill -- it is wonderful that he can play such a variety, ranging from high energy to slow and melodious. I am grateful to have his work available as it is a breath of fresh air to hear such musicianship without having to endure gratuitous guitar noodling. I look forward to more 5 Star output form Oz down the road.

One of the Drum Nation records turned me on to this amazing player. "Steroids" was the tune from Oz Noy Live. Also a great set. This recording is on in the house fairly regularly. I wake up in the night humming some of the riffs. Very catchy stuff. I have to clear my head with some Charles Ives! Everything is here; crunching, jazzing, funking, effecting, awesome bass and drums. Tell others.

I agree wholeheartedly with Gary Reiner's review. Oz is indeed a breath of fresh air. These are intelligent compositions
performed beautifully by some top musicians, and no 'look at me' guitar noodling. I did catch Oz once with Dave Weckl on drums and Will Lee on bass and it was fantastic. If you enjoy great musicianship and smart tunes then check this disc out. Oz's mixed bag of tricks might be right up your alley [...]

I've enjoyed Oz Noy's playing, and with this album his compositions have reached the same high level. With a jazz master's impeccable taste and an appetite for funk that knows no bounds, this album deserves to be a bestseller. Easily the equal of anything recent from Scofield, Metheny and any number of other much better-known guitarists. Can't wait for his next release!

A must-hear for any jazz-fusion guitar fan,

Oz Noy is one of those rare talents who has not received the recognition he deserves. Just a listing of the amazing drummers who play with him (Colaiuta, Weckl, Carlock) is proof that he's onto something way more advanced than more popular guitarists on the scene.
And if you're ever in NYC on a Monday evening, get to the Bitter End in Greenwich Village. His trio plays live and it will blow you away.! |
