Uniquely designed to sense the slightest vibration or movement, this Schlage keypad lever with built-in alarm alerts you with an audible alarm on first contact with the door or handle--not just when the door is opened. You can switch between three different alert modes--activity, tamper, or forced entry--as your security needs change. This keypad lever also offers keyless entry with a 4-digit security code.

Easy to install, this battery-powered lock provides peace of mind right at the door and address both security and comfort needs in a way that won't drain your pocketbook. Instead of paying a monthly fee for a security system, Schlage's door lock with built-in alarm provides a customized security solution right at your door.

This keypad lever from Schlage's Camelot collection features a Accent lever, and additional styles include the Plymouth knob and Flair lever. This version comes in aged bronze, and it's also available in bright brass and satin nickel.

Featuring all-metal construction, this keypad lever has an ANSI Grade 2 Security rating--one of the highest ratings in the industry--and is resistant to pick and bump security attacks. The wear-resistant keypad is backlit for easy viewing at night, and it provides keyless entry with a 4 digit security code. This unit has a 5-pin tumbler C keyway with two keys, fits either 2-3/8- or 2-3/4 backsets, and is ADA compliant.

Designed to fit on existing pre-drilled doors (1-3/8 to 1-3/4 inches thick), it installs with just a screwdriver in about 5 minutes and requires no wiring. Powered by one 9-volt and two AAA batteries (included), it's backed by a lifetime limited warranty on mechanical components and finish, and a 1-year warranty on electronics.

Keeping Your Family Safe and Secure

Combining the security of a strong, secure lock with the added safeguard of a sensor alarm that sounds the moment there is activity at the door, this Schlage keypad lever with built-in alarm enables you to select alert settings and sensitivity within three alarm modes. The three modes include:

Activity Alert

This alarm sounds two short beeps every time a door opens or closes, making it ideal for monitoring doors while people are home. For example, you can use the activity alert to monitor whether a small child, elderly parent, or person with special needs is trying to get out of the home.

built-in alarm activity
Activity alert sounds when door opens or closes (view larger).
Tamper Alert

This alarm sounds one long alarm for 15 seconds when the lever has been disturbed, making it perfect for monitoring a main or secondary door--especially at night. The most sensitive alert setting of the three, the Tamper Alert mode can detect even the slightest movement at the handle or lock.

Forced Entry Alert

This alarm sounds a shrill siren for about 3 minutes to signal significant force at the door--such as when someone is attempting to kick in the door--making it ideal for nighttime use or when no one is home. This Schlage keypad lever is preset to this mode, as 70 percent of home break-ins are caused by forced entry.

Adjusting Alerts and Sensitivity

Pressing the Schlage button at the top of the interior side of the unit for 5 seconds will turn the alarm on and off, and you can toggle between the three alarm settings. You'll be able to tell the alarm mode at a glance thanks to the button's three LED lights, which illuminates the left for Activity Alert, the middle for Tamper Alert, and the right for Forced Entry Alert after lightly touching and releasing the button. You can also choose from sensitivity levels ranging from 1 (most sensitive) to 5 (least sensitive), and the unit comes preset to level 3.

You can also set the sensitivity level of touch or activity necessary to cause the alarm to sound.

I love that I don't have to give a key to my house to the roommate instead I just give a code, & if he leaves I can change the code so easily.
Jennifer
The lock feels and look great, they are relatively easy to change batteries, and seem to work well in simulated testing.

I'm a big Schlage fan. I have an entire house full of Schlage link/Nexia products. This lock/keypad is well built, includes a solid mechanism and features a beautiful finish that looks right at home with my door's existing Satin Nickel Deadbolt and Hinges. The entry alarm/alert also works flawlessly.

The only problem I have with this unit (and the only reason I'm docking one star from the rating) is there is no way to leave the unit unlocked. I had to dig deep into the instructions to find this out. If the door is closed and you are on the outside, you are required to enter the code (or use the key) to unlock it. They really should have installed some kind of lock/unlock latch on the inside of the lock to allow convenient passage when locking isn't needed.

In case it wasn't made clear by the description, this is NOT a replacement for the deadbolt but instead replaces the door knob and lock instead. My husband and I decided to use this on the door between our backyard and the garage. I think it's the perfect place for it because my husband and son go in and out the house this way. It's a high traffic area especially when yard work is being done or on nice days when my son plays outside.

The good:

-Easy to install - all you need is a screw driver.
-Easy to add new codes.
-Attractive, well made.
-Automatically locks, which is nice when your hands are full.
-Requires two kinds of batteries which are included. One is for the alarm and the other is for the keypad. If the alarm drains the batteries, you can still use the keypad and get into the home. I thought this was a great design and showed they've really thought this through.
-Good counter measures: Enter the wrong code too many times, it shuts you out and you have to wait a period of time before entering in a code again.
-Three alarm settings to help monitor activity. Since this door gets a lot of use, we have it set on the most passive: it only sounds if it detects forced entry.

Other things of note:

The alarm is 90 decibels, which is noticeable from the inside but not very audible from the outside. Standing in the yard, it sounds like crickets. Obviously the alarm is only meant to alert you of what's going on, not to alert neighbors of a break in or scare would-be thieves.

Like a lot of people, you need to be able to let someone into your home when you're not there and then have a hard time either finding a spare key or getting the key back. We had that problem a few years ago and had to get our locks rekeyed when we had to change cleaning companies and the key was never returned.

That was the reason I bought a Schlage Keypad lock a few years ago. I recently got the Schlage FE576 to cover a different entryway since we find ourselves juggling keys in order to get into the house with a load of groceries.

Schlage is one of the big names in locks and it's easy to see why. The lock is very easy to install for someone of moderate talent. Since I was just replacing an existing lock, the new one more or less just worked. The levers can be changed to work with left or right opening doors and the plunger can be installed in either direction. The lock comes with a better strike plate and I highly recommend using it. You *may* need to adjust the hole in the jamb with a drill or rasp, but mine just slid into place.

One of the features I like best about FE576 is that you can program in "guest" codes and revoke them again later. If you have someone coming in to feed your fish while you're away, you can set up the code in a matter of minutes with the enclosed cheat sheet. It's very simple to remove the code once you no longer want to allow access to that person.

I'm very impressed with this lock and wish I'd changed over years ago.

I previously switched my doors over to the Schlage keypad entry type door handles to make it easier by not carrying keys and the ability to provide multiple and even temporary codes.

Installation:
This fits almost every standard door sizing and existing frames. I have had no problems simply screwing it together on an internal garage door, front large glass door and back garage door. I even went so far to test it on an internal wood storage room first to make sure I understood how it worked. With a few screws removing the old lock and catch, this fit right into the same screw holes for me. It does come with some additional sizings to help.
Remember to switch the door handle the direction you need before installing however.

Setup and Configuration: (NO NOT lose the master code that comes with the lock)
It comes with a code that allows you to set every possibility from multiple user codes to temporary. If you follow the diagram and wait for the proper flashing indications it is simple. If you type too fast or do not pay attention you just have to start over. From there the supplied sheet walks you through each step with a diagram flow chart

Usage:
It comes with the necessary batteries so you are ready as soon as you install it and configure your codes. There is always the backup keys, but the batteries have worked in all mine well over a year ()even with the box saying 3 years). It includes low battery warnings so you don't get caught by surprise.

Access is as simple as typing in the correct code and you have a few seconds before it automatically relocks for security. You can alway throw the latch on the inside to turn the lock off if you will be in and out, such as bringing in groceries.
