I highly recommend this set to any little (or big) Smurf lovers out there.

Yes, a tiny bit of assembly is needed to put the house together, though it's not going to take you more than a few minutes to put the pieces in place.

These surfs are great, and what you would expect from Schleich products (hand painted, good quality, great detail).

This is just such a cool play set. I really love toys that engage imagination, and this Smurf set does exactly that. Yes it is a bit expensive. On the other hand, there is a lot of play value in this one set. I would rather get one really fine set than a whole lot of mediocre sets. The house and four characters are the perfect place for kids to start using their imagination.

I find that European toys tend to be more about using imagination than having parts that move and do things. This is one of those toys, the characters are molded in one position and a child can imagine or role-play. The interior of the house is empty, either to imagine what is inside, or add other things to the house.

Over the years I've purchased a fair number of Schleich toys. They are similar to this set. The casting of the plastic is good, the plastic is incredibly durable, the paints stand up to rough play, they aren't always to scale, and the characters are all molded into one shape - they are not pose able. And, yes I'll admit, they are expensive. In the US these are found in higher end toy stores that usually cater to more educational toys. My boys have logged a lot of hours playing with the toys I brought back from my trips to Europe. There is something magical about the Schleich displays and the toys.

The toy is made of firm but flexible plastic. Assembly is not too difficult with a few tricks in mind. Several parts have to be cut from sprues (or runners from the molding process). I used a retractable snap off blade knife to cut the parts off. Nail clippers or a small pair of scissors would work equally well. A few parts take a little bit of manipulating to attach. It is easiest to insert the windows and shutters in the frames before mounting them on the house.

I'm sure kids would have a great time playing with this toy. I wanted one myself when I was little (I'm in my late 30's now), and I'm glad to finally have it! Being that this is from that German company, Schleich, I think this is the exact same piece, too! And it is stunning! This is a large Smurf cottage once assembled (which is fast and easy). It's 8 inches tall with the chimney, but it's pretty big around, too, considering what one would expect from a little mushroom Smurf cottage, anyway. In fact, it looks a lot bigger than the measuring stick implies. It's highly detailed and nicely the colors are gorgeous. And, amazingly, putting it together is a dream because you just pop everything into place with a good, careful push. The only thing that maybe could be more securely attached is the chimney, but even that won't come off on its own. The roof also doesn't lock into place, but that's for the purpose of taking it off to play inside. Now, there are a handful of parts to this you must not lose while putting it together, but the only really small one is the key to the door, which is not necessary, but I find putting it in and turning it does help to keep the door close. If I was to nit pick, yes, the door could shut better. That is pure nitpicking though.

Now, the only real issues I have with this item (which comes in a really interesting box, as it doesn't even mention the Smurfs, nor the fact that four figures are included; don't worry, it's an official product, there's a Peyo logo) are two things: One, this house comes with no furniture at all.

The Schleich Smurfs toys are great for kids and adults alike. There are tons out there to collect, and it seems like new ones get made on a regular basis still. Having a ton of little Smurfs on your shelf to display looks great, but how about you spruce things up a bit and give them a house? Well here you go! The Schleich Smurfs house is a fantastic little home to store a couple of Smurfs in, or to just keep out as scenery. It's 8 inches tall when assembled and can store several figures inside. Yes, a tiny bit of assembly is needed to put the house together, though it's not going to take you more than a few minutes to put the pieces in place. The mushroom house is made of two main pieces, and the rest are for the door, windows and chimney. Everything stays together fairly well, though a few pieces might fall off with regular use during playtime. Don't worry though, as everything goes back together without any problems. This is a pretty durable toy!

The included figures are Papa Smurf, Smurfette, Brainy Smurf and Gargamel. It's no big deal, but Papa Smurf is packaged by his own, while the others are bundled together. Maybe he really is that much of a boss. Each figure looks like they should, and I really dig Papa Smurf's sculpt and pose. The inclusion of Gargamel is a little puzzling though, given his tiny size. He's only slightly taller than the Smurf figures, and you know that isn't the case in the show. Maybe you can pretend he accidentally zapped himself with a shrinking spell or something. Either way, kids with imagination shouldn't have any trouble coming up with some fun scenarios with him running around the Smurf house. None of the figures have any articulation since they're one-piece PVC figures, but they're still fun.
