Good product / lousy instructions,

This tool made it possible for me to change the RTA bushings on my '93 Civic without removing the trailing arms from the car, however the instructions were not much help. They mentioned an eight inch spacer but did not show or explain where it should go. I found it easy enough to remove the old bushing but not until I removed the upper control arm mounting and ground a taper on the inner edge of the bushing did I succeed in proper installation. The second side took an hour and a half. I'm not telling how long the first one took. I do not have a lift. This was done working with jack and stands in the driveway. I figure I saved at least $250 by doing the job myself as compared to having a garage do it, and my wife's car will need bushings soon, so the tool was well worth the price. This review is for the tool. The service from the seller (who does not regularly sell this item) was first rate.Schley (SCH65100) Honda / Acura Bushing X-Tractor? === I have since replaced the trailing arm bushings on another car, a '97 Civic. This time the job went very well and probably took no more than three hours for both sides. In my opinion you'd be a fool to pay someone the price they ask to do this job. Buy the tool and do it yourself. Google search "Replace Honda Civic Trailing Arm Bushings" and watch a few of the videos. That should be all the information you need to make a good job of it.

I purchased this to replace the trailing arm bushings on 1998 CR-V. The video on you tube said 15 minutes. It was more like 4 hours. What they don't tell you is the pusher is not long enough to the cr-v, so I had to make a make shift extra spacer to finish the job. The first side I made the mistake of removing the tool before inserting the extra spacer and putting in the new bushing. This tool will bend your trailing arm enough that the tool will not go on the same trailing arm bushing very easily at all. Once knowing this it went better on the other side. It did still save time over taking the whole thing off, despite having to remove a top control arm that was not indicated in any instructions.

I found this tool difficult to use as it did not fit well over the trailing arm of my 97 civic ex. I got the bushing out and then while I was pressing in the new bushing the tool broke. So take care while using this tool..

This tool worked as advertised, eliminating the need to remove the trailing arm from the vehicle. But, make SURE you unclip the ABS wire from the trailing arm before you remove the bolts that attach the bushing to the body of the car. Otherwise you may break the wire. This is not explained in the documentation that comes with this tool.
The price here was also the best I found. |
