I'm inclined to recommend this to power-pop fans, but I must add the caveat that it is power-pop from the sunny '70s zone of the genre. The closest comparison I can make is The Wondermints' "Mind If We Make Love to You."

I love first two The New Pornographers' albums and am a bit lukewarm about the rest, but "Schmancey" is a 24k gem with nary an iota of filler. I would gladly pay $100 for this album.

Give this record a causal listen and you might not catch the slightly dark edge to the lyrics amid the glorious AM Gold sound. But that's ok! I love this record, and while not as varied as a New Pornographers album, has a great polished sound. If you like 70s soft rock, buy this.

The fact that this album has been out for the better part of a year, yet I am the first to submit a review for it is just a sad testament of the state of music today.

This is a masterpiece of pure power pop-like songs. If names like Todd Rundgren, Brian Wilson, Jason Falkner, Jellyfish, Kenny Howes, ELO, The La's or any Big Deal records acts get you excited then DON'T SLEEP ON THIS ONE!

I've never been a huge fan of The New Pornographers, so when I found out that Todd Fancey (guitarist for TNP) had a new album, I assumed I already new what to expect and didn't run right out and pick it up. What a mistake!

I cannot stress enough how great this is. It should be much more widely acclaimed. An absolute must for any true pop music fan.
