My wife and I are both concert-level pianists and we own a grand piano. We bought this toy piano to use in a keyboard group for a talent show. Two of our teenagers also play the piano and our 6 year old is also learning to play. We have all loved having this toy piano around. It is fun to play together with the piano. I like that it is in tune with our big piano. (i.e a "c" on this piano is a "c" on the regular piano. )

My parents bought this piano for my son's third birthday. When it arrived, one note was out of tune so I returned it - it was painful to listen to. Otherwise the piano looked nice and seemed sturdy, so I ordered the piano again. This time there were several keys that were slightly out of tune, but we thought it was good enough given it is intended for young kids. Then we discovered the song book and color strip were missing, so I had to return it again. This time I didn't bother to reorder it. The other thing I take issue with, is that Schoenhut makes a big deal about German music rods, it's long history and traditional manufacturing techniques. Their website has a section on it's factory in Florida, but the pianos are made in China and the company clearly doesn't have its quality under control. I don't have a problem buying Chinese products in general, but I think Schoenhut is misleading its customers.

I ordered the My First Piano II for my son's first birthday. They were out of the one I ordered, and after sending me the wrong one, they immediately corrected it by sending an even nicer one the next day, in time for his birthday. I was so impressed by the customer service at Schoenut...rare these days. My son loves banging on it - the sound is really good for a toy piano, and it's sturdy and attractive. I recommend the one with 25 keys instead of 18, since it will continue to be fun later on when he can actually play something. I'm also glad I ended up with the taller one, because he doesn't want to sit much now and he can play it standing. Later he can use the little bench. I very highly recommend this product!

There really aren't any options when it comes to new toy pianos; I'm pretty sure that the Schoenhut piano and the Melissa and Doug piano are the same thing, with different paint jobs. But for what it is, this piano is pretty good. There's no way that it could sound like a real piano, because real pianos use very large strings; strings short enough to fit in a toy piano would make incredibly high tones that only a dog could hear. Most of the mechanical issues that other customers have complained about--stuck keys, key not striking the tone bar--can be fixed by opening up the top and doing some minor noodling around, as the company suggests you might have to do. Overall it's a well-put-together toy that can teach kids how real musical instruments work.

Well made, sweet and chimey toy piano. Sounds like a classic child's piano, with the clunk chime tone each key makes. Personally I like this neat tone, it just sounds like childhood to me. If you want a real piano then buy a real piano. This is a teaching toy. After having it a year, I've been able teach my daughter finger positions, notes, flats and sharps, and 3 fingered chords, and now she's making up her own songs. And she's only 4! Just having an inexpensive toy piano, that is so much like a small "real" piano, available for your child to plunk on, allows for an interest in picking up music eventually. They say leaving your instruments out for your toddler to just pick up and play creates an early interst in music. And this is an inexpensive way to do it.

Elyssa, my 11 month old granddaughter loves this piano. It has a true to life sound. The only negative thing I can say is that it turns over easily. She pushes on it or holds on to it to stand and it topples over. I keep it pushed back against the wall for her. Overall I am very pleased with this product.

This piano is really, really cute - we got the red one for our 2 1/2 year old for Christmas and he loves to sit down and play with it - sometimes he'll bang, but other times he patiently plays one key at a time, just enjoying the different sounds. Seems like a very well made, very sturdy product and looks great, besides. My only problem? One key seems to be a bit out of tune! Not sure if we caused this or if it actually arrived that way since I didn't play it right away, granted, it's a kid's toy and not a recital piano, but still - it's a little diappointing to play a tune and have it not sound exactly right! Kid doesn't seem to mind, though - and it's not THAT far off! All in all, though - really nice toy - worth the money.

Consider this as an alternative to an electronic keyboard toy. It's nearly impossible to find a musical toy that doesn't take batteries nowadays! This toy is true to key, has a bright tone, and is fun to play with. My 1-year-old niece loves to pound on it, and I'm hoping that she'll learn a little something about music from it as well. It appears to be well-constructed and a high quality piece of equipment.

Picked this up for my 17 month old as an Xmas gift. He hasnt opened it just yet as, but im sure he going to love banging on the keys.

-The piano is such a vibrant bright red color.
-Cratfsmanship is awesome.
-Price is the best value.

The same piano was available at FAO Schwartz for about 20 bucks more and an additional $14.99 for shipping.
I think I paid about $58 for it here on Amazon and the shipping was free. I really save alot. I love Amazon.com

(And I loved my toy piano!) My three-year-old has been sitting on it and pounding on it for a week now, and it looks like it will hold. I had to tighten the hex bolts (or whatever they're called, 3 on each side), but no biggie. The keys are a little wiggly, but I gave them a tug and they seem OK. Naturally, any kid determined to pry them off would find a way.
