My parents bought this piano for my son's third birthday. When it arrived, one note was out of tune so I returned it - it was painful to listen to. Otherwise the piano looked nice and seemed sturdy, so I ordered the piano again. This time there were several keys that were slightly out of tune, but we thought it was good enough given it is intended for young kids. Then we discovered the song book and color strip were missing, so I had to return it again. This time I didn't bother to reorder it. The other thing I take issue with, is that Schoenhut makes a big deal about German music rods, it's long history and traditional manufacturing techniques. Their website has a section on it's factory in Florida, but the pianos are made in China and the company clearly doesn't have its quality under control. I don't have a problem buying Chinese products in general, but I think Schoenhut is misleading its customers.

I ordered the My First Piano II for my son's first birthday. They were out of the one I ordered, and after sending me the wrong one, they immediately corrected it by sending an even nicer one the next day, in time for his birthday. I was so impressed by the customer service at Schoenut...rare these days. My son loves banging on it - the sound is really good for a toy piano, and it's sturdy and attractive. I recommend the one with 25 keys instead of 18, since it will continue to be fun later on when he can actually play something. I'm also glad I ended up with the taller one, because he doesn't want to sit much now and he can play it standing. Later he can use the little bench. I very highly recommend this product!

My 2 year old daughter received this piano for Christmas, and she loves it! It seems durable and well-made It is not a cheap junk plastic piano This piano is meant to be kept. She plays with it several times a day. Our daughter has many developmental delays and the piano is a perfect height for her and the keys have allowed to use her hands better. This was the best Christmas present she received.
All in all, I would not hesistate to buy this one. Yes it's more than the "toy" pianos, but well-worth it.

Elyssa, my 11 month old granddaughter loves this piano. It has a true to life sound. The only negative thing I can say is that it turns over easily. She pushes on it or holds on to it to stand and it topples over. I keep it pushed back against the wall for her. Overall I am very pleased with this product.

My son took an interest in my mom's piano at only a couple months of age. I searched local stores and the internet for a "real" piano. I wanted something simple: black and white keys, not electronic/battery operated, just something that resembled a real piano for my son to bang on. This fit the bill perfectly. I got my son this for Christmas and is now 5.5 months old and he loves it. It is the perfect height for him to sit and play away. I also love the bring shiny red color. It is bright, fun, gender neutral, and classic looking. When I read some of the reviews, some people were disappointed in the piano's sound. It is does not sound like a "real piano", but for a $50 toy, I did not expect it to. Real pianos cost thousands of dollars. It has the chime-like sound of a toy, but is not at all obnoxious sounding. If you are looking for a fun, classic toy, I highly recommend this piano.

This piano is really, really cute - we got the red one for our 2 1/2 year old for Christmas and he loves to sit down and play with it - sometimes he'll bang, but other times he patiently plays one key at a time, just enjoying the different sounds. Seems like a very well made, very sturdy product and looks great, besides. My only problem? One key seems to be a bit out of tune! Not sure if we caused this or if it actually arrived that way since I didn't play it right away, granted, it's a kid's toy and not a recital piano, but still - it's a little diappointing to play a tune and have it not sound exactly right! Kid doesn't seem to mind, though - and it's not THAT far off! All in all, though - really nice toy - worth the money.

This was purchased as a gift for my niece. If my brother hadn't wanted it for her or if it were for my own kid, I would have returned it. Alas... Here's the things I don't like about it.
1. Misleading Company Image. The company likes to pretend that it's American or German made, but if you read their website more closely, it's actually manufactured in China. 2. PHOTO SHOPPED IMAGE!!!! I'm sorry, but there are 3 giant bolts, not painted red, on each side of the piano that are NOT in the photographs featured online or on the toy's box. 3. Shoddy construction. Made out of cheap particle board. The piano arrived broken. When the bottom half of the keys didn't make any sound, I called the company. They sent me an e-mail detailing everything I should check for before calling them back. I had to unscrew the top, take it off, and examine the piano. There was a piece of wood inside that the keys slide under and it had come loose on the left side. This piece was cut too short and was badly tacked in place. We ended up fixing it ourselves by using gorilla glue. It will probably be more secure now than if we had sent it back to them. 4. BAD SOUND! In general, it sounds cheap and the highest note sounds AWFUL. Completely out of tune. 5. Absurd Return Policy. Must be within 10 days, have to pay for shipping, insurance, and a 15% re-stocking fee. This is terrible. I really, really hope my niece likes it because I don't think it's worth the $50. I'm sure she'll enjoy banging on it.

My wife and I are both concert-level pianists and we own a grand piano. We bought this toy piano to use in a keyboard group for a talent show. Two of our teenagers also play the piano and our 6 year old is also learning to play. We have all loved having this toy piano around. It is fun to play together with the piano. I like that it is in tune with our big piano. (i.e a "c" on this piano is a "c" on the regular piano. )

Boy can this thing take some beating on! The little guys bangs on those keys with anything in his hand. No nets, no broken notes, nothing. He tips right over, CRASH! and everything still works great.

Solid construction. Seems to built like a real mini piano.
A warning label reads that toy is for 3+ years old due to small parts and sharp edges. |
