Book Description

7 and up
The Scholastic Atlas of Weather gives kids weather information, activities, trivia, and more. Stunning illustrations bring weather phenomena to life.

Every spread in the Scholastic Atlas of Weather contains a huge, dynamic, and colorful illustration, which shows kids exactly what causes weather to run wild. Clear, succinct captions underscore the vital scientific information kids need to fully appreciate Mother Nature's power.

In the book's first section, kids explore how Earth's location in space affects weather and climate. Topics covered are: Earth's position in space, Earth's atmosphere, wind, water and precipitation, temperature, and types of clouds.

Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

Grade 4-7–A compendium of the hows, whys, and wherefores of weather, using two-page units to address a variety of related topics. Replete with a multitude of colorful illustrations and diagrams (and data-packed captions) and a plethora of sidebars, the conversational text is limited to a paragraph or so on each topic (such as types of clouds, sand and dust storms, etc.). The whole is rounded off with a "Facts" section, and eight relatively simple experiments. A key to measurement abbreviations and a metric/U.S. conversion chart are also appended. More detailed than Simon Adams's The Best Book of Weather (Kingfisher, 2001), less complex than Brian Cosgrove's Weather (Knopf, 1991), and larger in size than the compact National Audubon Society First Field Guides: Weather (Scholastic, 1998), this offering presents a fresh face in the weather lineup.–Patricia Manning, formerly at Eastchester Public Library, NY
