4.0 out of 5 stars A Story Newer Readers Can Sink Their Teeth Into - a review of "My Tooth Is About To Fall Out"
My almost 6 y.o. daughter is really curious about this loose-tooth-falling-out business and so this book makes a good purchase (especially at these prices-lol).

In this book a little girl is waiting for her tooth to fall out. It covers all the usual lore about baby teeth, and then the end actually discusses the fact that children generally have 20 baby teeth...

4.0 out of 5 stars A Story Newer Readers Can Sink Their Teeth Into - a review of "My Tooth Is About To Fall Out", March 14, 2006
This review is from: Scholastic Reader Level 1: My Tooth Is About to Fall Out (Paperback)
My almost 6 y.o. daughter is really curious about this loose-tooth-falling-out business and so this book makes a good purchase (especially at these prices-lol).

In this book a little girl is waiting for her tooth to fall out. It covers all the usual lore about baby teeth, and then the end actually discusses the fact that children generally have 20 baby teeth and that they fall out when their roots shrink, making room for the adult teeth. So there is a little `science' at the end.

As for being a Level 1 reader, I have to say what I usually say, which is that Level 1's are in the eyes of the publishers. From my perspective, as a mom of a kindergarten aged child, I wouldn't suggest this book as a primer for newbie readers. For one thing there are words like: swimming, meatball, spaghetti, tongue, slides, nothing, through, behind, something, twenty, underneath, and dissolve. With contractions such as: she'll, I'm, brand-new, nothing's and there's.

That said, the pictures (which we liked btw) give such good clues that newer readers with a little experience under their belts should do alright.

Four Stars. Good story that is interesting for children. Good practice for newer readers - though not just-beginners. The pictures give lots of clues to help.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great beginning reader!, March 24, 2000

This book, like most of the Hello Reader books, is a wonderful introduction to reading for young children. As a teacher of young children, I know how important it is to offer children books with short, repetitive words that they will begin to recognize by sight. This books contains many of those words. My five-year-old twin daughters read this one every night as they are anxiously awaiting the day when their first teeth will fall out!

5.0 out of 5 stars great for beginner readers, November 14, 2003
This review is from: Scholastic Reader Level 1: My Tooth Is About to Fall Out (Paperback)
This book doesn't have the best art work or the most original story, but what it does have is exactly what a beginner reader is interested in reading about. A great vocabulary builder for your beginner reader. Your 4-7 year old will ask to read this book again and again. "uh-oh! It wobbles. It wiggles. It joggles. It Jiggles. My tooth is about to fall out." The book continues with, " I hope it doesn't fall while I am playing ball or swimming in the pool." Until it finally falls out in the spaghetti and meatballs. The book continues with some fun information about why your baby teeth fall out and that " Big teeth will begin to show from under my gums, way below." Great book.

4.0 out of 5 stars When Will I lose a Tooth?, April 26, 2011
This review is from: Scholastic Reader Level 1: My Tooth Is About to Fall Out (Paperback)
From the time our granddaughter turned 5 she has been asking when her teeth would begin to fall out. Our family immediately related to the story! "My Tooth is About to Fall Out" is a comforting story about a young girl who discovers she has a loose tooth. She talks about it wiggling and jiggling. She wonders when and where it will actually come out and what she might be doing. All, I believe, are realistic concerns for a child losing a tooth for the first time. It makes for an identifiable experience for young children and a great book for early readers. The vocabulary is more than a beginning reader can tackle independently, but the illustrations offer specific clues for the content. This is of high interest and nicely written.

Our grandson was about to turn 6 yrs. old & had a loose tooth right before Christmas. We thought it would be appropriate for him to practice his beginning reading skills with a book that portrayed a current episode in his young life. It worked sooooo well! He was encouraged to read it to everyone who would sit with him & he shared his loose tooth story by cementing a penchant for reading at the same time. Timely for sure; good shipping time line also.

This little book explains to children how a loose tooth comes out in a way they can understand. The book also uses words that a 4 or 5 year old can learn to read for themselves. If you get this book, and read it to your child or grandchild, it takes the fear out of having a loose tooth, and can also make it fun. I bought it for my 2 granddaughters, age 5, both had their first loose tooth. After, reading this little book, they both looked forward to the process of losing their baby teeth. Both girls are learning to read and can read almost all of this book themselves. Their parents were very happy that the girls were very excited with this little book and how much it helped them all. Best book I ever bought them!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Reality Readers, January 30, 2010
This review is from: Scholastic Reader Level 1: My Tooth Is About to Fall Out (Paperback)
Give your child a head's up on the tooth losing situation. My grandson just lost his first tooth and it was a little traumatic. He brought his tooth to his Mommy with tears rolling down his cheeks and asked her to "put it back". These books can ease the anxiety of the realities of life with stories children can understand. Nice Read. Sweet Story.
