5.0 out of 5 stars A more useful reference book than you'd imagine...
Wow! I was really surprised with the quality of this book - It is a very well organized book of rhyming words, which is a handy thing to have around! The rhyming words are listed alphabetically by number of syllables. I bought 3 of these for friends of mine who are going into University journalism courses, and they were thrilled. These things aren't just for "ages...

2.0 out of 5 stars this is too basic
all they do is take every suffix and play the alphabet game, just running down the list, there are no complex rhymes half of common words are left out.

The rhyming words are listed alphabetically by number of syllables. I bought 3 of these for friends of mine who are going into University journalism courses, and they were thrilled. These things aren't just for "ages eight and up" as it states on the back; everyone can have fun with a rhyming dictionary!

It's also really fun to just read the rhyming words out loud quickly in front of a group of people. It's an excellent "coffee-table book" in that sense! More fun than a barrel of monkeys!

5.0 out of 5 stars A great book for poets of all ages, November 19, 1998
By A Customer
I bought this book to use when I teach poetry to children, and ended up using it for my own poems, too. This book is useful and lots of fun.

5.0 out of 5 stars Should be included on your child's school supply list!, August 22, 2006
This is a super book that will not only increase you and your child's vocabulary, but will become a useful tool for your kids' writing assignments for school! I've had numerous writing assignments come home from my grade school kids that required rhyming and creative writing. This book came in SOOOOOO handy, it really gave us an advantage and allowed us to create more vivid stories than trying to come up with rhyming words instead of out of our over used and limited words off the top of our head. When in question, we reach for THE SCHOLASTIC RHYMING DICTIONARY!

RECOMMENDED!

4.0 out of 5 stars Best Rhyming Dictionary I own, July 20, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I have three rhyming books as I write my annual Christmas letter in a poem.
This one happens to be the best one I own in my humble home.

It's true this book doesn't have every word that I need.
However, most of rhyming words I use come from this book - guaranteed.

It has cute pictures, large text, and I like how the words are arranged.
If I didn't have this book during the holidays, I would definitely feel short changed.

I don't have time to write more, so you'll have to see for yourself,
Why this little rhyming book belongs on your bookshelf.

This is a fantastic rhyming dictionary, great for middle school aged students. The organization of the dictionary helps students find their word choices quickly. I purchased five of these as a classroom set, and will purchase more soon to make sure that every student has one under their desk. Even the most stubborn "non writer" has fun using this resource to write poetry!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for younger people intrested in poetry!!!, March 12, 2006

This book is a great book for any younger person intrested in writing poetry, songs, raps, and etc. I think that this book is very easy to use and understand. I know I have said that this book is mainly for kids, but I am 15 and I still use this book for a lot of peotry that I write for school. So basiclly it is a great book for most people to use. The book also has funny pictures in it to help you know what the word is. Overall this is a great rhyming book.
I hope my review was helpful to you!

1.0 out of 5 stars This book doesn't do its job, July 18, 2009
This review is from: Scholastic Rhyming Dictionary (Paperback)
Do you need a rhyme for "borrow" or "talked" or "razor"? Then look somewhere else. Those were the first three words I looked up in "The Scholastic Rhyming Dictionary", and there were no listings for any of them. This book represents the triumph of appearance over substance: Bright two-color pages, lots of white space, bold heads, cute cartoons... but a rhyming dictionary that can't think of a rhyme for "borrow" simply isn't doing its job.
